I've ran across this article that the Nebraska State Patrol is still rolling with their 1993 Mustang 5.0 SSP, with manual transmission. Love seeing Mustangs on patrol and still in great shape!

"The Nebraska State Patrol's Facebook page posted a wonderfully anachronistic photo showing the 1993 Ford Mustang SSP in full police regalia backing up a modern Dodge Charger Pursuit as the pair took down a ne'er-do-well in a mid-2010's Hyundai Sonata. "'93 Mustang 5.0 is on patrol today. Yes, it runs... Yes, a trooper drives it... Yes, it's in service." It's also reportedly a manual."

Damn, wonder what the mileage is on that.

Should keep it in services but swap in a Gen 3 Coyote when the old 302 goes. Make people think they just have to outrun some 20+yo 225hp car till the officer drops the hammer.

I talked with a patrolman years ago that was driving a Camaro. They said vehicle was in storage for a long time and they were driving to up the mileage so they could sell.

Most patrolman didn't like the manuals. To much going on to change gears in pursuant

Those 5.0 engines in the 80s Fords can withstand a lot of miles. The engines didn't make that much power, low tension rings... I've seen engines with well over 100,000 miles and the cross hatch is still visible. My '70 convertible has an ex highway patrol 302 in it.

180 k miles and my 88 GT had a knock, built a 351 stroked to 399 and had ready to go. Every night I would get that old 5.0 up to 125 when I got near the house, so if it blew I could roll in. Never blew, got tired of trying after 3 months.
Took the motor apart just to check out, top end still good, mains and rods dhowing bronze. No blue anywhere.

Man, that would almost be worth getting pulled over to have a conversation about it. So cool.

I thought it was nostalgic to see a Crown Vic still in service. Lol.

For those interested in more about the Mustang SSP, here’s 2 great sites (I’m a member at each, as I used to have an 86 SSP):

For those that don’t know, here’s a really awesome SSP factoid; the Mustang SSP was also used as a chase car for chasing down the U-2 “Dragon Lady” Spyplane....
