hi everyone. I apologize if this is already posted somewhere, but I just bought a 2019 Mustang GT and it has developed the Typewriter/BBQ tick at 700 miles. I am dropping it off at the dealer to have it looked at. I know in the TSB, Ford says it’s normal, but has anyone found the source of the ticking? Or has anyone had the tick and have high miles on the motor with no issues. I am concerned based on the horror stories I have heard. I will remove post if a thread has already been started about this. Haven’t had much luck finding anything that points to a source of the problem.

Never heard of such a thing. Hmmmm 4 cams + chains + variable timing + 32 valves..12:1...hmmmm should be dead quiet.....should sound like a Camry or push rod motor....

This awesome motor is really not meant for the average joe.

From what we know you are actually lucky to have the tick. This indicates a very well made engine that has close tolerances. This leads to some cavitation in the oil. If the sound bothers you add a bottle of Ceratec.
That’s what I have read so far. I am sure the issue was blown out of proportion, but better be safe than sorry. Too many people who have said they have cylinder wall scoring to not be worried.

Sorry to hear you are enduring some worries with your beautiful car. My 2019 has maybe a 100 or at most 150 miles on it so far. I'm curious did you change out the oil already and just notice it after that? I don't intend to do my first oil change as early as some folks do maybe around 3500 miles or so. It must be fairly loud to hear it inside the car with that rumbling beast of a motor? Or is standing beside the car? Or with the hood open? I'm just curious what and how it is audible. Sorry I don't have insights I'm a newbie first time GT owner too.

Don't believe everything you read or see (frantic youtubers for example). Put down the keyboard immediately and go drive your car. The only time it should not be making noises is when it is turn off. If you turn it on and you hear no sounds, then you should start to worry.

BTW, if you were not sure if this was posted yet, how did you know about the TSB etc?

Oddly enough its everywhere on this site except this General Forum which was why I promised myself to only stay in this one to avoid the 'truth" (sarcasm there) :)

Well.....don't use the search function. That would just be silly.

Have the dealership bore scope your motor.
Look for scratches and scars in the upper area of your cylinders.

Not oil cavitation.......that would be just as bad by the way.

Talk to your local repair shops for outside advice.

Always remember, other makes do not have this problem.
This is not normal.
You Tube can be your friend.
Contact MMR or MPR and other Coyote specialists for more advice.

Good Luck!

Why would you tell someone to do all that? Do you just like wasting people's time? Are you really saying that youtube is your friend? A friend does not lie to you, waste your time and make you look like a fool. youtube can and will do that to you. I can say that there is some good info on youtube that I have used for DIY or real issues with things - like a bad control panel on a diswasher. In those cases that it was a problem, the person showed step by step what the issue was and how to fix it. Please point us to the youtube BBQ tick video that shows the issue and proves it is the issue and the step by step on how to fix it. Good luck.

Annnnd here's the resident moronic Coyote hater giving out bad advice :headbang:

It has been proven that the tick does not cause engine damage. A member who had the tick opened up their engine and found no damage whatsoever. Check out the thread: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/gen-3-coyote-measurements.122096/

I wouldn't even waste your time taking it to the dealer. The tick is a slightly annoying noise that usually goes away after you put more mileage on the car.

Someone posted the tsb on reddit. I found it when searching for the issue.

Its a YouTuber myth. 99.99% of the time, its the fact you just aren't used to a DI engine and the pump and injector noises. Period. End. of. story. Now send it...

I looked through numerous threads and none have said anything about what truly causes the issue. Like I said. I am new to the coyotes. Came over from an LS
