All new cars starting in 2020/21 will be using the new R-1234yf freon here in the states. Say goodbye to R134.

Pretty sure my Mustang already has this refrigerant. I work for a Honda dealership and Honda has been implementing this in their cars since 2017.

And in 10 years it will be R-abcd123 and so on and so forth. Ironically, plain old ammonia works better and doesn't harm the environment. I think the same thing is happening with R410A "Puron" which is the refrigerant used for home HVAC systems.

Basically, stock up on some of the stuff now. I think the no-longer-produced R22 (For home HVAC systems) goes for almost $100 a pound.
