So can someone clarify this for me, if I have a 2017 mustang GT base car, all I need is and APIM, FCIM and the cabling and media hub and I'm gtg? Also does anyone know if the 2019 stuff works in the 2017, rather have the recaro/non heated seat bezel and newer sync 3 apim.
The basic swap without Sirius or HD Radio consists of:
APIM/Screen
Bezel
Antenna
Harness
Ford USB Cables
Media hub.

We have it all in stock. Our demo car is a 17 with 2019 components. It works fine.

The new style 4" APIMs only have 1GB RAM. Older 8" Nav and non-Nav both have 2GB. IMHO, if I were doing a 3.2+ upgrade, I'd mod an older unit (preferably Nav) before paying for a new style 4" APIM. This is 3.4 running on a modded MY16 non-Nav:

I'm out of the loop, why is it called a 4" APIM? Is the module itself smaller? I assume the screen size remains the same.

The old 4" had a black box module, which wasn't sync 3. The new 4" have a Sync 3 APIM that is almost identical (both in appearance and size) to the older Sync 3 APIMs, but they have 1GB RAM and have the 4" OS installed

Ah, okay. Can the new APIM be connected to an 8" screen and flashed?

Yes, and I believe that's what the previous poster was referring to in #1588

So how do you mod the APIM?

Our software engineer has a method for the 2019 4” APIM. What Acool is referring to is an actual software/firmware update to a 16-18 NAV APIM. It’s not something most people will have the ability to as it’s not a FORScan fix.

Also, we aren’t selling people 2018 non NAV units we are flashing the APIM from their car to 3.4 without NAV. If someone wanted nav and 3.4 I would start with a 2019 APIM too. In fact that’s exact what is in our 2017 demo.
It’s important to understand that we, as a business, can’t sell hacked software.
3.4 is one of those things that is still very new, whether or not 16-18 APIMs can run 3.4 AND things like wireless CarPlay/Android Auto or any of the new features coming on Explorer and GT 500 remains to be seen.

There's nothing hacked about the software. It's about unlocking the device, much like the FBI had to use a 3rd party contractor to do in the San Bernardino iphone shooting case. There's nothing illegal about unlocking Sync to be repartioned as needed for the official 3.2+ updates.

I'm just saying that if someone is paying to mod their 4" APIM, they might be better off to put that $ towards a 2gb unit IMHO.

I highly doubt it will which is one reason why we haven’t been flashing 3.4 into 16-18 APIMs. The truth is unless Ford updates the center stack in future S550 Mustangs I’m not certain how much it will benefit.
We put it in mine mainly to answer customer questions as well as digging into the digital cluster.

Well you can't flash 3.4 into 16-18 units unless you get access to the FS...and only then your "software engineer" can do it provided that he knows what he's doing which I highly doubt
