I suppose that would optimize it for all scenarios, but I wouldn't go through that trouble. My personal take is to pick one that best suits your desires and use. If you're not worried about engine catastrophic failure and never load the engine heavily, then 5W20 will get you the longest life. If you track it 90% of the time, then leave 5W50 to help prevent failure. If you are somewhere in between, pick your poison. I chose 5W40. If you go with a 5W30 I would recommend finding an A3/B4 oil due to the higher HTHS and stouter add pack.So sounds like if you go to the track where you expect oil to work in high temperature conditions, it is justified to use 5w50, but then change it back to recommended as you get back to usual dd commute.
