So sounds like if you go to the track where you expect oil to work in high temperature conditions, it is justified to use 5w50, but then change it back to recommended as you get back to usual dd commute.
I suppose that would optimize it for all scenarios, but I wouldn't go through that trouble. My personal take is to pick one that best suits your desires and use. If you're not worried about engine catastrophic failure and never load the engine heavily, then 5W20 will get you the longest life. If you track it 90% of the time, then leave 5W50 to help prevent failure. If you are somewhere in between, pick your poison. I chose 5W40. If you go with a 5W30 I would recommend finding an A3/B4 oil due to the higher HTHS and stouter add pack.

I ran PUP 5W20 in my 2018 GT since its first oil change at approx., 2700 miles. I switched to PUP 5W-30 at 23,300 miles around 8 weeks ago and as of today, after 1300 miles everything is working just fine. I will stick to PUP 5W-30 in the future as my drive train is a slight bit quiet compared to 5W-20.

I'm going to use 5w20 for first 10k or so to finish break in, then switch to 5w30 some time after that.

I am using 10w-30 Mobile 1... No issues as long as you also use a bottle of Ceratec!

I have been reading this thread and it occurred to me that my recently purchased CPO 2015 GT vert has an anomaly I discovered. Take a look at the oil cap on these pictures I took a few days after I brought the GT home and cleaned the engine bay. Can anyone explain this?

Like me, a previous owner changed the cap to match the oil they use.

That was my guess as well. The dealer changed oil/filter and installed new tires on mine. It had 31K when we purchased it and now has 34K on it. I am sure they just went back with 5W20 when they serviced it. I have a 8yr/100K Ford Premium warranty that is good until 07/09/2023 and I will just go with whatever the dealer uses for my included oil changes so as not to cause any issues should I need warranty work. It is our DD since we are both retired. BTW, I like those coil covers!

Keep us posted. Would be awesome if a car survived that many dealer oil changes!

We purchased our 2014 RAM Laramie new and it had 83K on it when we sold it. It also had a 7/100K factory extended warranty and always had the oil changed at dealer as they were included in the warranty. We never had issues and our Hemi was quite and never used oil. So far, we have had good results, I hope it continues.

I know it's possible, maybe even likely, but the horror stories of no oil, wrong amount of oil, wrong oil, filters that fall off, lot dings, even cars crashed, etc, etc, are so common and unpleasant that I shudder at the thought. LoL
