You think that corner just snuck up on him?[/Q

I have driven the ring. As you mentioned, he was off the line and with too much entry speed for his approach. So yes. I believe he, like many, underestimate the blind corners of the ring. The steering angle entering the corner never changed. He was not expecting it.

I can hear Jim the Track Attack Instructor saying he didn't "kiss the curbing"...

I wonder if he has to pay the barrier repair ?
They charge you per rail destroyed plus labor. And the towing services of course as well as amount of time the course has to be closed if your accident is serious. Fees for Nurburgring crash are $$$. A quick search and you’ll come up with people that have detailed their itemized bill.

I was there getting a taxi lap in an M5 when one of our friends banged up his M3...drove right by him on the side of the track - not a cool scene. I didn’t really see any barrier damage on the drive-by but his bill was extensive and thorough.

All I can say is that has to be the worst towing company ever. I wouldn't let them tow my go-cart. He must not know how to use his wench and roll-back to his advantage. That was completely unnecessary. But, maybe that's how they do it over across the water.
Typical race track recovery. Goal is to get the damaged car off of the track as fast as possible, not as cleanly as possible.
