Yes I do hear the gear whine only if i turn down the radio and grandma shifting. Besides that my exhaust and whipple whine is louder.
Do you power shift it?

I have been looking for the shaft centerline spacing for the MT-82 but haven't found it. That number is a good indication of the relative strength of the transmission. A Tremec Magnum is 85 mm as I recall, and good for 700 lb*ft.

*Update - found the information in the Ford service manual - 82 mm, not bad (hence the designation MT-82).

Magnum is cool and all, But the gear ratios of the MT-82 fit the Coyote Better. I would take the Calimer all day, any day. My opinion is not based on $$ at all.

The ratios of the MT-82 contribute to a lower torque rating. With a 1st gear of 3.24 the mainshaft gear has to be a small diameter, doesn't leave much metal between the teeth and the bore. Tremec's 2.66 and even 2.97 1st gear would be larger diameter even if it has the same shaft centerline distance (but the CL is probably larger for even greater torque capacity).

A set of 4:10s evens everything out, that's what i had with my magnum xl ..smoked alot of mt-82 cars with it....

That's a similar line of reasoning GM used for the F-body T-56 when they went from a 3.36 1st in 1993 to a 2.66 in 1994, raising the torque rating from 350 to 450 lb*ft. They made up the difference with a 3.42 rear axle (and a 0.5:1 6th gear).

How much, minus the core, will a billet stage 3 set me back?

Not bad, compared to an XL swap anyway

Thanks
Kuya, Youll love it. Trans feels stout. I can bang gears again lol. I have it paired with the Mantic and Barton Hybrid 3 STS

Sup braddah!!! Long time... I’m back in Cali. We should link up. I’m in the home-buying process right now, so funds are tied-up lol. When I break the stock one tho, I’m def going this route

Hate to revive this thread but my cars at lpf right now getting a twin kit, mantic dual clutch, mgw race shifter and braided hose......they said my-82 is garbage and wait til it blows and get a tremec ir turbo. People on this thread even say, when speaking to calimer, even he says the tremec is better and the mt-82 is not worth it.

swapping its 5-6k to auto, or anything.....seems like a waste if calimer can make an awesome stage 3 for 3400. Kind of want a fun high powered street car until i go full blown race car (auto etc etc).

then my fun street car will be a gt350 lol (with a whipple)
