Hello.
Here in Brazil Ford recommends, in spite of the hot climate, 5w20 Full Synthetic oil for the 2018 Mustang GT.
What about in Australia, since we have similar temperatures?
I am about to change it to 5w30.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Adelmar
My son who is a mechanic has suggested 5w30 as well. He feels it would give better protection for the engine.

I'd like opinions as well

My FN 2018 service book says 5W-30. I recently debated with my dealers assistant service manager that, that is what is specified but he insisted that it should be 5W-20. Shrug. I didn't use the dealers workshop for an off schedule oil change and had Royal Purple HPS 5W-30 put into it. When my first scheduled service is due I will be supplying this same oil for the dealer to use.

Im going the supercharger route from Tickford in my 2019GT and the oil goes to 5W50.

I know alot of people in the US go to 5W40 also for their NA Mustangs.

Hi Adelmar
All good.
I was in Rio last September but I didn't see any Mustangs.

He probably has drums of the Castrol Edge 5-20 in stock that was specified for the Miami spec V8 Falcon's.

Because they are the same engine, right?

Why is it so hard for some dealers to know their product!

Good morning.
Just came from dealership and PCV valves (there are two of them) were checked and are OK.
Now they are going to contact Ford Engineering for instructions.
I intend to change to 5w30, but I'll wait for their answer prior to it.
Car has now 6.300 km.

My Ford dealer uses 5W-40 for servicing all Ford cars.
Our owners manual specify 5W-30 A5 (Fuel efficient) engine oil.
One thing i notice with the 5W-30 A5 engine oil usage is a lot higher than say 5W-40. I have not had to top up so far and oil level is still at max.

Where do you stand using non Ford specified oil/filter if; you experience “catastrophic engine failure”?
Not unknown in our cars.

Suspect Ford could argue “you made us put this (insert brand) in your engine - cannot guarantee it was correct specification/uncontaminated.
We recommended Ford specified lubricant and filter, you instructed us not to”

It is the official Ford Dealer that uses 5w-40 engine oil I am not sure why.
So if anything goes wrong well its their fault.
No they dont use/have motorcraft oil either but they do use motorcraft oil filter.
Motorcraft oil is just rebranded conoco phillips oil if im not mistaken.

It would be hard to justify turning down warranty cause you used a slightly different oil. Oil filter might be a different issue though.

The oil filter is not worth the risk IMHO. And the savings are probably very minimal, say $20 / year?

I had my first annual service done this week at the dealer and supplied my own Royal Purple 5w-30 oil. They made sure to note on the service report that "the customer supplied own oil 5w-30" and that they "have advised customer Ford spec grade oil is 0W-20".

Their notation is not quite correct in that they actually told me that 5W-30 was for the Ecoboost and 5W-20 was for the GT.
This 0W-20 is new to me. Has anyone else come across this.
