My hands never go higher than 3&9. I usually grab the bottom half of the steering wheel if I'm just putting around town.
I used to be hand over hand & drive with my left hand at 12 o'clock, until I've had few airbags blow up in my face.
I'm a push/pull guy now.

And, here's the old fashioned way.
I had that prosthetic device on one or two of my before-power-steering cars. I took care to mount them with the pivot inside the wheel, which made for better push-pull steering when appropriate.

Our Scout leader had a device with the same usefulness: it was a circular wheel/handle built into the bottom spoke of a Late-Thirties Ford convertible. He used to do the slide-sideways-into-a-parking-place trick for our entertainment. "Howie" is what we called him. Might have been his name.

The best steering technique is driving the car the way you're comfortable with and being a very alert driver. Nothing else really matters.

And yet no drivers use push pull, except on race day when they are in cars with high ratio steering.

I do. All the time.

And it's really mostly just pull down.

When you're using the 9 & 3, you have finer motor skills pulling down, than pushing up on the opposite side. So actual race drivers mostly pull down, very little if any pushing up on the opposite side.

That doesn't make sense when high steering ratios racecars don't require you to move your hands from 9 & 3. You'd have a tough time finding video of any pro racer or drifter who uses the bus-driver style hand-over-hand technique due to it's significant disadvantages and problems.

I almost didn’t make it past the intro lol.

I’m hand over hand almost all the time. It feels natural and in autocross I feel push/pull didn’t feel as fluid at all.

I typically drive with one hand until there a reason to have two on the wheel.

Same here, street or track. Track it is quite rare I ever move my hands from 9 and 3. Street is wherever comfortable but I still push/pull mostly. With SC2's on the car it is mostly 9 and 3 though or might find yourself in a different lane.
Also they put those big bumps in your steering wheel at the 10 and 2 position and yet that is where people still grab the steering wheel.
