Is "Proformance Racing School" the only company in the area that does track days for novices? Seems like I can't find any other ways of getting out onto the track. It also seems that, comparatively, their prices are pretty steep, but maybe that's just because it's your standard "PNW" pricing.

I'm just not sure how else to find out about track days and other instruction-based high performance driving events beyond Google, and it basically all directs me back to Proformance.

Are you wanting instruction or a track day?
Another great option is DirtFish out in snoqualmie

The reason you mostly see ProFormance is they are in a partnership with the largest track...

Definitely instruction.

I've only done one track day and that was 10 years ago in an Audi A4 and one autocross five or so years ago in my 03 Mach 1.

Definitely want to have some instruction time in the GT350 before I consider attempting a track day on my own (which obviously wouldn't likely be allowed anyway).

Thanks for the other consideration.

HPDE...
I bet these Mustangs would be a hoot on track.
We don't do "track days", we do vintage sports car & Formula V racing (and the occasional LeMons races...)
Before any racer turns a wheel on the track, he or she has fully accepted that they may well lose their car this time out. We've had engines blow (as in ventilate...) on the first lap. Off track excursions (spins) will happen. If you're not mentally & financially prepared to possibly have your car destroyed, don't enter the race track.
I suppose the mentality of "HPDE" folks is that they're not really pushing their car 100%. And "racing" isn't technically allowed... :lipssealed:

That said, quality driver instruction is the key to decent lap times. If you don't know threshold braking, correct line determination, etc., you're wasting your time on track. Save a lot of money and go to K1 instead.

If you DO want to fully explore the capabilities of your car, go get some good instruction, and then hit the track solo. There's nothing in the world like driving a race car on a real race track, wheel to wheel with your fellow competitors. (To almost all real road-racers, Auto-X is for weenies )

Best bet for good racing / "high performance" driving, in my experience: The VARA school at Buttonwillow every January. Superb classroom instruction, lot's of braking and car control exercises, and LOT's of track time. Both with and without an in-car instructor. Nothing remotely as good, or as good of a value on the west coast.

The local Porsche Club has a real safe professional program all summer . You must join the Porsche Club in the NW to sign up but it is worth it. They have several Mustangs at every event and have instruction for novices. Check it out at Pacific Northwest Region, Porsche Club.

On instruction at the tracks, you can do much homework with videos, must be the right ones tacking the best lines. Hint watch and study racing videos.
  • Race clubs from ICSCC have some great instructors and school formats at all the PNW tracks : https://www.icscc.com/ under "events" look at the scheduled. Fridays they have schools at most race weekends. I taken the schools and now have instruced with some of the clubs. IRDC - The Ridge & Pacific. Team Continental -Oregon Raceway Park. I have raced a few years with this group ICSCC and NorthWest Hillclimb Association.
  • Turn2 at the Ridge call Tom ahead and schedule one of his instructors that come from the Porche group, ICSCC group etc. https://www.motorsportreg.com/calendar/?country=US&q=Turn2&radius=300 I have coach for Tom.
  • The great Northwest different Sports car clubs including SCCA like there Track Night.
  • Read folks like Ross Bentley "Speed Secrets" he puts out a lot of great material like this: https://speedsecrets.com/virtual-track-walks/ get into the details and mind set before you hit the track. You will have more fun!
  • When you can walk the tracks, ask permission to do this.
  • Race videos The Ridge: PIR: PIR GB BossS:
  • Pacific old Proformance Video: Pacific ICSCC Race Group 4: (LS power Porsche) Pacific Race Stock Car:
  • You can get private instructors, even one of the Ford Performance School Instructors live here in Portland, Ronnie Swyers if you can do this you will be fast "faster" with brain mod. https://product41.com/product41-shop.html

Watch the lines the drivers take, when they can take a perfect line vs racing. Lot's of great knowledge out there with these racing groups and they like to share. Questions? I will do my best to share. Have FUN! Brian

Hi I’ve been going to the track night in America put on by the SCCA over the last couple years. It’s great fun and a random variety of cool cars are on the track. It’s $150 and they’ve been doing it at Pacific raceways in Kent and at the Ridge and Shelton. Hope to see you there when things get started back up. The first time I took my Mustang there last year a couple weeks after buying it I blew up my transmission! Thank goodness it was still under warranty.
