I bought my R (traded in a base 350 for it) last December. So far i’ve had to bring it in for oil consumption, AC went out, water pump bad, and the plate rattle between the engine and transmission. I feel like Ford and I have split time equally with the vehicle.

I love the car but damn.... would be nice to have some compensation for all this hassle.

How much of a problem is this?
I Just had my Engine Replaced due to Oil Consumption and the Part number is different.
My Car is a 2017 GT350 H6088
They installed a GT350R Motor

You're lucky. That K at the start implies 19MY. So you got the newest engines with all the best bits.

R = replacement engine
REP = Romeo Engine Plant

the tech told me that the motor is an GT350R motor and he had to replace some sensors with "R"
versions since the intake manifold is re-used

I could have mis-understood what he said.

Welp.... sadly, i have to get my engine replaced due to oil consumption. I thought I was in the clear, as i had no issues with 15k miles on it. At 17k miles, after an oil change at just over 15k, i’m low 6 quarts.

I assume resale value takes a hit here. Not that i plan on selling it, but is there any kind of compensation for this? I purchased the baller’s maintenance package and the 100k warranty when i bought the car.

Did any of you get anything for this issue? I figured they would have had a fix for this by now. If it matters, i have HR875, 2017.
before Ford will replace a $30,000.00 motor they want the Dealer to do an Oil consumption test, they mark the dip stick, you have to drive 200 miles then go back
for them to check the oil level, then repeat. Next step is to do a Dye Leak test. if no leaks then they pull the valve covers and intake manifold and conduct a borescope
of All the cylinders then submit to ford 360 for approval.
I went through this twice since I did not trust the first dealer since they had never replaced a GT350 engine.

an no i did not get any compensation for this, they even made me drive their loaner Fusion hybrid for 10 days, man that thing was slow

I don't think this is required. I just went thru the oil consumption/dye test at the same time, that was enough to authorize a new motor. In fact the dealer thought they were going to have to go inside the motor first to get approval and Ford said NO.

Bore scope is done via the spark plug holes. They don’t remove the valve covers.

I have only seen one post where a guy was able to buy back the block if it was true. Ford won't let any one inside the engine and they want the old one back so no one will know whats really going on.
It is true lol.
Who else has tried to buy back the bad engine? 0? Probably becuase no one else has tried.

Not coded properly for R eng. The differences are mostly internal and the valve covers are different.
I am not aware of any external sensors that are different.

From what I can gather, there are no Differences between the two engines,
the Valve covers are the same, I cant find different part numbers for internals. the only difference is the Engine identification Label.

I have been collecting data on this and check this thread on the information I have discovered.

yes I know, but ford wanted for them to check something in there, not sure what, also pull the intake manifold, looking for oil somehwere i guess.

But as soon as the tech sent ford the Bore scope pictures, they came back with the engine approval in 15 min.

So from what I have been able to figureout from my data collected is that the two engines are slightly different.
Data here https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/gt350-r-engine-build-date-codes.117482/

the label is coded correctly for an "R" Engine
the fordnxt.com article is not correct in the statement that "the valve covers are different" nope, they are not.
the code 151, may be an internal code but not anywhere on the engine. the ID label shows the GT350R Engine has a code 555
the GT350 has a code 557. this is consistant between the 2016 - 2019 engine builds.
again, look at the data here https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/gt350-r-engine-build-date-codes.117482/

also there is some good info here on the engine differences.
