Would appreciate everyone's thoughts on stuffing the new 3.0L TT V6 from the Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer into the Mustang. Would likely be a weight savings over the 5.0L and a lot better on the gas mileage. Thanks.

Even turning up the boost and making it 500hp (probably very easy and still reliable), 80% of the people here would prefer to never buy it because != V8. If they just offered a boosted version of the 3.7L Cyclone, it'd be a killer engine but too close in performance to the Coyote (or past it tbh, new single turbo kit from NPG hits 550rwhp on 93).

I do wonder at what point they'll offer something like that combined with the electrified A10 to push 450/600 on the Mustang. Seems like they did a lot of improvement to the Coyote to end it with this generation.

I'd be a fan of the 3.5 TT. I had an Expedition Max Platinum as a rental while my Mustang was getting the hood replaced (corrosion), and for having to move a bus, it was a really good engine. Plus they're getting 450 hp out of it in the Raptor and 640 in the GT, so it's versatile enough they could probably get it to really work well with the Mustang.

With twin turbos, an intercooler, all the ducting, etc....how much weight is it really saving?

Just curious, because looking around it doesn't look to be much, if any compared to the Coyote.

If you're talking about an engine swap on current models, seems like a waste of money. If you're talking about Ford offering it as an option alongside the V8, I'm unsure, as I think they'd be better off with a BMW i8-like set-up with an electric and gasoline motor that produces the same performance as the GT but with a consistent 35+mpg on city/highway (again, incase someone missed what I bolded, as an option, not a replacement for the V8 or even the 4-cylinder) . If you're talking about instead of the V8, then absolutely not: I know that V8s are dying out, but cars like the Mustang should retain one as an option until it's completely unsustainable from a sales and R&D perspective.

Why not 4.0 TT v8 600 hp from the next generation of v8?
Because they already have a V6. R&D costs for a 4.0 V8 would not be justified when you have an existing engine family that can meet the performance criteria.

Honestly weight savings probably would not be much. The difference would be in that the CG would be more or less configurable since external sources of weight like intercooler, pumps, turbos can be located in a way to get close to an ideal CG. That is something that cannot be done with the coyote. So while weight might not be much different, overall vehicle handling could still see a benefit.

A V6TT to replace the V8 in the Mustang GT is like Kate Upton getting a breast reduction. Come on people. Is there nothing sacred?

would love that over the 4 banger. anyone think the 2.7 or 3.5 from the f150 would work in a 10 speed mustang since both of those have the 10 speed. i mean the trans tune would be off.

A twin-turbo 2.7 liter V6 ecoboost… (w/tune 415ft-lbs of torque.).

If I remember correctly, the 2.7 does not directly fit in the S550 due to a clearance issue with the cross member. I remember hearing that Ford actually tried fitting both the 3.5 and 2.7 in the S550 before it's debut in 2014. The 3.5 didn't work because clearances were to tight for their standards. Unfortunately don't have any sources for this info.

I'm fairly certain this is what they'll do for the Hybrid Mustang promised for next year. As long as the TTV6 fits. If it doesn't, I guess it'll be the 2.3L with a Focus RS tune combined with the electrical setup from Aviator for enough combined horsepower to consider it "V8 power levels" like they originally teased.

Yeah, a slightly de-tuned version of the GT engine would be awesome!!!!
