If it's an PCM programming issue, I doubt the rattle would be getting worse with more miles on the engine. Some of the 2K RPM rattle might be due to the PCM programming like Ford claims with the F-150s, but there may also be a piston clearance factor in it too.
I'm thinking there's multiple issues at play as well. I think some are piston issues and others may be fuel system or VCT issues. We've seen some bad engines that are getting replaced so it may be one of those things where you do a PCM reflash first and then look at the engine if that does not fix it.
IIRC The F150 uses the same PWA process for the 5.0 as the Mustang so I'd think they would be just as affected as us.

The engine knock or rattle is present in all forward gears. I say forward gears because I never tested it in reverse. When you get into fourth gear and above, the road noise from the speed the car is traveling makes it difficult to hear the knock. But the knock is still there.

This is true. My rattle was so loud that on certain roads, I was able to hear it in 4th and 5th gears.

Wonder how those of us with a tune will get this fixed if it is only a flash to correct. Hopefully the tuners can build it in to a personalized file and send it out for free (or cheap).

Anyone else notice the rattle is twice as loud when the motor is cold? Not sure if reprogramming the VCT will get rid of that. If so, great.
Yeah it’s louder when cold. When I first leave my neighborhood in quiet mode you can really hear it. It may just be because I rarely have it in quiet mode when it’s warm too though lol.

Its important not to get the 2k rattle, tick, and rattling on deceleration all mixed up.
TSB 18-2354 was performed on my F150 and it solved absolutely nothing. Don`t get your hopes up

Yep, that's known as the "2K RPM rattle". Only 2018+ Gen2 Coyotes exhibit that noise.

The BBQ tick (typewriter trick) is the random tickng at idle, and any Coyote since 2011 (Gen1 thru Gen3) can exhibit that noise.

I have both the rattle and the tick in my late model 17. Engine was already replaced once. It's starting again. So I wouldn't say only 2018 Models. 2018+ is a Gen3

Seems nobody that I can recall has reported the "2000 RPM rattle" in Gen2 Coyotes until all this rattling thing started in the Gen3 Coyotes. If some Gen2 engines do it, it's way less prevalent than in the Gen3.

My 1st gen Coyote had the 2k rattle, same as my '18 does...sigh

Has Ford said anywhere that the typewriter tick is normal for the Gen III?
Ford are having quality control issues , hers a clip on some of the problems machine shops are finding ,

What's the 2k rattle sound like? I have a 2015 and I get a rattle sometime at idle but mostly at 1500-2k rpm on acceleration. Wonder if I have the same thing. I thought it'd either be the cats or underbody heat shields.

Sounds like a diesel. At least that’s what I think.
