I recently received my 2018 GT Premium Convertible and am quite pleased with it. I would like to “hardwire” my Escort Radar Detector into the existing wiring, possibly inside the trim across the inside top of the windshield or into the map lights. On my 2013 GT convertible, I “Mirror Tapped” easily into the wiring connector on the back side of the rearview mirror and that worked fine. I cannot see a similar connector on the back of the 2018 mirror, even though it is auto-dimming also.
I sure would appreciate any feedback on to hardwire the detector in without going to the fuse panel.

Radar Detector Hardwire-Solved

This is for a 2018 GT Premium Convertible with rain sensing wipers. Configuration may be different for other models. There is no wiring bundle connecting to the back side of the rearview mirror as past models have.

(1) The black cover (two pieces) on the windshield under the rain sensor mesh pops off easily using fingers or rubber coated trim tools. Four spring clips pop right out.
(2) Locate the wiring bundle that goes into the center of the mounting shaft for the mirror.
(3) Trace it back (a couple of inches) to the first wiring connector that it feeds from. It is black with white clips.
(4) The two pins that you want to connect to are the very bottom one on that connector and the third one up.
(5) I had an extra detector tap in the garage that I used (not sure which brand).
(6) I had to reverse polarity once for it to power up then all was good. It is very difficult to see close where you’re working but looks like the wires are Blue/Black and Brown/Yellow at the connector.
(7) Pop the two-piece cover back on and you are ready to go. Detector will power down with the rest of the accessories when you open the door
