Started out using 92 for about the first 1500 miles then thought I'd try regular at 87 since mine is a daily driver and to save some $$. Runs fine, no knocks and don't need the extra 20 ponies right now. At 25 to 30 cents more a gallon for premium I'll stick to regular for the time being.

I'm only using 100 ethanol free fuel for my Bullitt here in EU./
Effectively the equivalent of a 96 octane gas in the US, if such was available. As a side note, it would be nice to live in a state where they didn't require that it have ethanol in it.

I'm running 91. I cant find any 93 around slo, but there are a couple of stations in San Jose that sells race fuel at the pump...if you ever find yourself up that way.

I'm in the same boat in the central valley, but I'll keep looking. If I find something around you, I'll let you know.
Guess I'm lucky. There's a kind of rundown 76 station/quickiemart just down the street from me in Modesto. It has 100-octane 'racing fuel' at all 4 pumps. I fill my Bullitt with 91-octane at Costco for +/- $3.20/gal at Costo, run a few gallons out then top up with the 100 for $7.999/gal. Four gallons in a tank of 91 give me a little over 93. Call me crazy.

NW corner of Coffee Road and E. Orangeburg. Just down the street from Doctor's Hospital. It's a 76 station, but the 100-octane has a disclaimer 'not a 76 product' or something similar. You can just make out the orange labels on the 'racing fuel:'

Any time. Around town, you can't really feel the extra 5HP, but it does seem like there's a bit more grunt off-idle. Or, maybe it's because at less than 600m on the car it's just starting to get broken in.

Im no scientist, and im probably asking this out of curiosity; The fuel tank holds 16 gallons. If I put 12 gallons of 91 and 4 gallons of 100 octane in the tank, would that increase the octane to around 93? At 8 bucks a gallon for 100 octane, its obviously not worth it from a money vs. Gain point of view, but id probably do it one time just to see if I notice a difference...

So, 13g of 91 and 4g of 100 gives 93.1176 octane, according to my trusty HP calculator. And, no, you probably won't feel a difference. I did this a couple times with my '08 just for shits and grins, but thereafter it was 91 (unless I came across a pump with something higher, Canada has 93 at a lot of places--go figure). And, sometimes, you can't get better than 89 in some of the 'high prarie' states (WY, ND, SD, etc.).

Yesterday, I 'topped up' again with the 100-octane 'Racing Fuel.' However, I'm having second thoughts about doing this, and it's not just the expense ($7.99/gal!). I did a little online research, and it's likely most of the higher octane fuels contain a significant amount of ethanol. Our Bullitts are good with E10 and E15, but most gas in California contains up to 10% ethanol already, and adding racing fuel that has a significant amount could possibly exceed 15%. I looked closely at the label on the pump, and it didn't mention ethanol, nor did the other pumps, but I don't think they bother putting it on the pumps anymore because most assume California gas contains it. From an aviation website:

"The ethanol industry considers pump labeling to be discriminatory and lobbied successfully for elimination of Federal pump labeling laws in regards to ethanol content."

Hate 'those people.'

Anyway, I also watched a video on YouTube by a couple who had 'modified' their car--not sure which model but it had a Coyote--to run E85. They had issues--not necessarily with the ethanol--but they did a teardown on the engine and there was visible corrosion on the top of the cylinder walls which they attributed to the E85.

So, I don't think I've done any damage, didn't get a CEL and my engine ran VERY well on gas with 4-5gal of racing fuel mixed with 91-octane, but I don't think I'll be adding any more 100-octane to the 91 (unless and until I can find out what the alcohol content is).

ps. The thought crossed my mind that the racing fuel might have tetraethyl lead, but I don't think that's legal to sell for street cars in California.

Canada has 93 at a lot of places--go figure).
All Chevron stations in BC carry 94, which is what goes in my Bullitt. Only adds about $3 on a tank vs 91.

OK, curiosity got the best of me. No idea what 100-octane 'racing gas' consists of--but it smells a bit like toluene or xylene--but I got concerned about its ethanol content. So, I did what any anal-retentive gearhead would do and decided to find out. Got a new 1-gal gas can (plastic) from Walmart--another story--and bought a gallon of the racing gas. Since I had an old 100cc graduated cylinder laying around from my home chemist days, I put 30cc of distilled water in it, and mixed with 70cc of the racing fuel:

After the mixture settled, I had just under 100cc of fluid, of which 36cc was in the lower water layer, and around 63cc in the upper fuel layer. Hence, this fuel has about 8.5% ethanol--close to what a typical 'E10' would have--so, safe for my car.
