What is the purpose of this thrust washer? Mine and alot of others have broken and caused ABS light to go on. I have no idea what this washer does. Ford calls it a thrust washer. Anyone?
After messing around with the half shaft and hanging out at the Ford shop today we've come to the conclusion that these thrust washer serve no real purpose other than to keep the Hub / spindle from getting seized onto the half shaft.
The must salt the roads in Iowa pretty well. Lots of corrosion on that unit.
Might want to be generous with the never-seize when putting it back together.
Yes unfortunately they do. I keep alot of silicone spray and rust inhibiting sprays on hand. Alot of what you see is just moisture on bare metal. Bare metal will rust within hours of exposure to moisture.
The washer has zero to do with the ABS system. The ABS is all housed in the rear wheel bearing assembly. Once i changed out the wheel bearing assembly my cruise and everything worked fine. No i didnt put the thrust washer back on.
ABS codes will not show up on anything but Ford software. Id make sure everything went back together correct. Or you could have the other side went out just by a weird coincidence.
