It's not going to win GTLM/GTE Pro which is what the goal was.I really wish Ford would've put in the work to get the Mustang to Le Mans. Think about a Mustang with that variable ride height pushrod suspension! You can't tell me that a Mustang has no chance of being competitive in a class against a BMW 8 series
Of course it can if a giant 8-series School bus can be competitive. It's all about the IMbalance Of Performance in the socialist dictatorship of the FIA.It's not going to win GTLM/GTE Pro which is what the goal was.
Eh, I wouldn't worry about that too much. The original AMG gang believed the same thing when Merc/AMG started putting AMG badges on the likes of the "C43" aka just a C450 with a different badge to get more sales, and other similar cars that didn't follow the original AMG ethos. But hey, they're doing better than ever... and lets be real, Ford Performance just isn't in the same realm as AMG or //M for example. This in addition to execs forcing Ford Performance branding on products that aren't worthy like the Edge ST. Brand reputation for Ford Performance is critical and under performing products carrying the Ford Performance designations can damage it.
Don't argue with him Harry, I think he took one too many knocks on the head as a child. Dude is delusional, and immature to boot. From the same guy that stated that "porsche is junk".
Even for a "true Ford guy" that is hilarious.
That last bit... just may be where the “plus” comes in.Motor Trend

Interview with Hermann Salenbauch
Director, Ford Performance
Selected quotes:
“GT350 is a track-focused vehicle but deploys power in a different way than a GT500. GT500 for the first time will be very track-capable, but it’s also very straight-lined. It plays in both and gives you the high level of horsepower. You will not spin a tire as easily in a GT350, but a GT500 will have strengths that a GT350 doesn’t have.”
“It will be a ‘20 model year, so sometime in the second half of next year. It’s an exciting machine. We a have a long history on improving capability on our GT500, doing something big every year.”
“It will have more power than we ever had. We told you 700 plus, and it’s not 701 or 702; it’s plus and a bit more.”
“There’s a little more weight on the front of a GT500 with a supercharger, so you have to deal with it. But I have excellent vehicle dynamics engineers that worked on that. It handles extremely well. It’s not just a straight-line car.”
Double checked my typing...wording of all quotes should be accurate.
Based on his previous experience with “doing” the 2008.5 KR model, his comments regarding a ‘20 GT500KR, did not seem particularly promising.
He is very excited about electrification as a performance enabler.
I read it the exact same way. She's gonna be a porker as it sounds as though any type of weight reduction program just isn't what it should have been.“There’s a little more weight on the front of a GT500 with a supercharger, so you have to deal with it. But I have excellent vehicle dynamics engineers that worked on that. It handles extremely well. It’s not just a straight-line car.”
That quote speaks to me. Instead of saying they have incredible dynamics engineers, he should of said “There’s a little more weight on the front of the GT500 with a supercharger, so to deal with it we made exceptional strides in weight management in other parts of the vehicle.”
But he didn’t.
This is an OEM product that sees more beyond just the number. It's about integrating that power into the chassis as well as ensuring durability, emissions compliance, and capability thresholds that are realistic. Flat numbers aren't everything.850-900hp or forget it.
It's easy enough with a common GT so.....
