Frank,

seeing your in NJ from your profile location, do you mind telling me who your Ford Service Center was that did the work on the trans?

There were these TSBs, last being from 2018, regarding the 10R80 harsh shift points, but it was for the Ford F-Series:

I’m not sure why it’s hard to find similar info for the S550 10R80.... I bumped another thread I started a while back asking if there has been any recent TSB, SSM or GSB’s on the subject matter, so hopefully someone will respond to that one too.
Hey Cobra,

I've had my car in for Service with Medford Ford in Medford NJ ... I live in Marlton and it's like 10 minutes from my house. I took it there for convenience purposes only, I never had any work done there before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I bought my car at Lilliston Ford in Vineland, I probably should have taken it back there but it's like a 55 minute drive for me.

Thanks for the links to the TSBs and digging up the old thread, hopefully somebody replies. I'll read these PDFs later today.

The whine I would guess stems from the way that the main hydraulic pump is driven to the side of the input shaft instead of being part of it directly and by what appears to be by straight cut gears, coupled with the much thinner fluid that was made for this auto. This is my best guess because the cutaways make it look like the main pumps driven gear and the input shaft pump drive gear are straight cut, and the fact that the lock-up clutch apparently locks almost immediately after the vehicle gets moving.

Mine has had the whine since day one with little, if any, change in volume, but it is not that loud unless I am in specific sound resonating areas ;). My father-in-law has a 2017 F-150 that also makes the same noise, however, his is a little louder, but I think that that is because it is higher off the ground.
I'm glad I found this. When I test drove my car, I didn't notice the sound, but the car was cool and in an open area. When I got home and pulled in the garage, it was very noticeable. Checked everything and it looked good. Drove it latter that night, it was much more quiet on startup but once I got home, it was back to being much louder. This would make sense with the fluid "thinning out" as it heats up. Maybe they should make the case a little thicker on that side to deaden the sound.

Show me one.

I noticed today the trans oil temps take forever to warm up above 100 degrees. Like almost 15 minues of driving.
Mine doesn't

I'm having the same issue of the lurch from park to drive and the hard downshifts. About 6000 miles on my car and it was built 3/18. I really hate to bring it to the dealer because I don't like them working on my car. End of the season is almost here so I'm debating on whether to bring it now or wait till next Spring and see if a TSB or something surfaces over the winter.

Disconnected the battery last night for an hour. No improvement.

I went to the dealer two days ago to check if the jerks and hesitation are normal and they said although it felt wired but yes. We went to a test drive on a brand new 2019 and it jerked as well. I guess Ford is trying to imitate manual on this 10R80 but GM messed it lol. Anyway, after they reset my computer, it feels a bit better now.
I guess once you put attention into an issue, the problem itself would amplify in your mind, leave it alone and keep enjoying your car. It is not that noticeable if you don't think of it. This is what I learned from my ECO these two days lmao.

I seem to have the down shift from 4th into 3rd while braking hits really hard. It is def. a tuning issue with the trans. This is while in D.
If I make that down shift with the paddle it is smooth, if the trans makes that down shift while in S it’s smooth.

My 18 is the same way. Jerky from R to D, and downshifts extremely rough from 4 down. I tried the relearn with no joy and ended up taking it to the dealer. Tranny specialist said it was normal. Thinking about taking it back again.. Build date is around 11/17.

Sometimes my '18 A10 car does this hiccup-type lurching thing when I try to accelerate from a stop moderately in the lower gears (1-3). For some reason it's most noticeable when I'm stopped at a light or stop sign and try to make a tight right or left turn. It feels like the throttle is surging up and down, more than a simple upshift. Never get any warning lights.

Edit: does the 2018 have a user-accessible way to "calibrate" the gas pedal position sensor and/or throttle body position?

Mine does this, but only in 5th gear (or 4th if it doesn’t skip 4th gear) Can you pay attention to the tach next time you’re driving and see exactly what gear it’s happening in? It’s like it’ll dip 200-300 RPM, and then surge up and back down again before continuing to smoothly accelerate.

Got off the highway and noticed a low irregular thumping sound at idle - could feel it slightly in the shifter. It went away then i got a mild tranny thump as i was coming to a stop. Seemed to get worse from there. Within 5 minutes, the car would not upshift and the car felt like it was limp mode (but it wasn't). Managed to get it up to 30mph then the car downshifted and the back end locked up. Turned the car off then back on and headed for the dealership. Drove there in sport mode but it wouldn't shift past 2nd gear. As i pulled in i could hear metallic rattling sounds (revved the motor slightly and it sounded fine). Threw wrench symbol then the check engine light came on as well.

Blogs, sorry to hear that happened.
SSM 47361 – 2018 Mustang – 10R80 – No Upshift Past Second Gear Fails To Achieve Third Gear Ratio – Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0757 And P2701

Some 2018 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a concern of no upshift past second gear or not achieving third gear ratio with DTCs P0757 and P2701.

This concern may be caused by a damaged one-way clutch.

To resolve this condition, replace the complete front support assembly (7A130) which includes the one-way clutch as well as any other parts that are found to be damaged.
