I have spent much time pondering a way to stop my wheels getting dusted with rust after spending an hour cleaning them. I only do a heavy cleaning every few months. As always I do one wheel at a time, dry with a leaf blower, then drive the car after all four wheels are done. Unfortunately the rotors still rust and clean wheels are instantly dirty.

Today I tried something new. Following the above procedure, but instead of doing all four wheels then driving, I used a heat gun after the leaf blower to dry the rotors and my wheels are rust dust free. Extra time invested was minimal, but well worth it.

It has been suggested to wash the wheels with the rotors warm after a drive, but many cleaners state to apply to a cool wheel.

Get ceramic pro installed on the rims which will make your life easy to clean them.

You can also drive forwards/backwards 10 or so times in your driveway. Apply the brake lightly and then shift to 1st or reverse and repeat.

I applied CarPro HydrO2 to my paint/wheels and it makes cleaning them easier. Even if I go drive after a wash I have minor rust dust on the wheels.

reviving this thread. after 3k miles and about 20 washes (give or take), i cant take it anymore. every wash, super clean, go for a 5 minute drive, rust from rotors is all over the wheels. i've looked up hyde's serum rust stopper but havent tried it. i've read on bimmer forums and rennlist guys who drive the car wet for about 3-5 mins, and mostly seems to work for them. dont feel like driving my car wet (unless that's the only way).

what do you guys do? anyone tried the hyde's product from autogeek? i would think 100% of OEM rotor shelby guys are dealing with this.

picture of super clean wheels but rusty rotors after wash...soon to be super clean rotors, rusted up wheels...

EDIT: I just watched this YT video, I'm going to give it a try, a product called Dry Coat Rust Preventative...

These'll never rust:

And they don't dust much either - I get more road dust on them than brake dust...

How about a set of Powerstop Z26 Street Warrior ceramic pads? I don't have dirty wheels. :like:

it's not the pads that causes the initial rust, it's the rotors after rain or a wash. i'll eventually swap out to less dusty pads like the powerstops, but my concern here is the rotor rust after washing the car. i've ordered the dry coat rust preventative and gonna try it out.

I used dry coat on my rat rod truck undercarriage and body.. not sure I would use it on my brakes?.. I am interested to see what you think.
