Lol production now apparently means 68 units built by Ford Performance.

That’s not even a Ford vehicle really. It has a part number and you order it from the parts desk, NOT the same dept.

What genius decided to tease the Cobra Jet as a production vehicle getting everyone wondering if it could be the GT500, the longest teased vehicle in history??? Talk about completely tone deaf their marketing department. Unless they just like mindf*king their biggest supporters.

You mean the Acura/Honda NSX , right?
Development of a ground up supercar is hardly a good comparison. The basic framework for the next GT500 has been in place since 2015 (with the GT350). NSX took 4 years from concept to production. Give Ford time, we're almost there.

Edit (but my point is really about how oblivious their marketing department is)

It takes along time to test a crate engine with a blower on it...this is cutting edge stuff.

Yawn another Cobra Jet that's not street legal and only 68 people can buy.

Doesnt Ford realize how pathetic the GT500 is going to look with the 2015 headlights when even the CJ has the 2018+ Front?

Also yes Ill just go ahead and say it if the GT500 isnt damn soon they might as well update the GT350 front end too.

Agreed. They are so late with the GT500 they should really give up and start working on a GT500 for the next Mustang platform.

We were at the outdoor Greenfield Village Museum on Wednesday - which is DIRECTLY along side of the Ford test track. From certain vantage points, I could hear and see them doing laps in a Ford GT. At one point, I heard something much louder. Looked over and saw the white camo mule running WOT on one of the high-banked turns. Sounded pretty mean. I couldn’t hear blower whine but I probably would not have from that distance - was obviously an automatic and the shifts sounded aggressive.

At this point something smells fishy, either the next gt500 will be epic or a complete flop. I think its been delayed in lieu of the competitions latest offerings. As much as I hated the 18 front end refresh its really grown on me and think it looks awesome, Im thinking ford realized it was a mistake not to include the refresh on the latest gt500 so I think they will include it in the design as well. As fabulous as the pre refresh s550 looked it kind of looks dated now so it would make little sense for ford to use it on their newest flagship mustang.

You do know that is just a Mule? It was probably built in 2016-17. New new GT500 won't have the 2015-17 headlights. The production model hasn't even been shown yet!

They already told us it will have the 15-17 headlights.

The carbon radiator support from the GT350, which will be used in the GT500, won't work with the new headlights so they are going to use the old ones.

Which is totally fine with me, because they look way better.

What a joke.

Major tease only to find out it's a non-legal street car that cost over $130,000.00 and all 68 will be sold within days. :punch:

The GT350 headlights are almost a 3rd style, while the light themselves are the same as the 15-17 (AFAIK), the end effect with the different fenders, lower/longer hoodline, changes it up quite a bit.

That being said, it's sort of an odd marketing story, Ford made such a big deal out of the lights-as-a-design-element on the MY18+, the rears are interchangeable, but create a bit of a design conflict, maybe they'll make 15-17 physically sized lights, but with the new "angled parens" style tribar.
