Hey guys, I did the oil change yesterday from the local dealership and while I was emptying the catch can, figured out that the engine oil dip stick was not fully inserted. Almost half in. I drove like this for 10 miles approx and kept in garage like this couple hours without noticing it. Would I have to worry about this and get a new oil change?

I would just check the oil level, and forget it if it's good. If it's low, I suppose you could get the dealer to top it off and make sure they know they have a problem, but I'd rather just top it off myself and forget about it. No big deal.

Nope. We've done way worse over the years. My dipstick tube sheered off at the mount on my old '99 tahoe and flopped over. A little bit of leak, but I salvaged a new one from a pick-n-pull yard, bolted it right on and it's good as new.

Dipsticks are just for measuring fluid. What you don't want is your auto trans dipstick tube to come out of the transmission case if you happen to have an automatic transmission. That's a horrible mess, and usually the fault of that friend of yours that volunteered to install the tube and make damn sure it was bolted to the bell housing (long story).

You're fine. If it were that big of a deal it would have a sensor and alarm if not seated properly with how easy it is to pull out and remove.

Tell you what, change it and send the old oil to me. I'll put it in my Mustang.

Time to relax! Most people on these forums talking about oil change it way too early. But 10 miles is some kind of record.

I drove my car in college/grad school without a dipstick or a plug on the tube even for 6 years. :) It was a Nissan, though -- if it was a Ford I'm sure it would have exploded.

I have probably looked at thousands of sites over the years (double that if ya wanna count the porn) seeking information on different things, & I have never seen so many bad puns (by intent, of course) or great 1-liners as I have on the Mustang6g site. Some of this stuff has me laughing so hard, it brings tears to my eyes. I am sure that the originators of this site didn't intend it to be a home for frustrated comics, but it's gotta be a go-to place if you are ever having a bad day. To all you Comedy Club 'rejects' ... THANK YOU for the laughs!!!:clap::clap::clap::clap:
