I'm doing my research into a preferred coilover kit for my 2017 car. I like the look of the shockworks set up and I'm wondering (from people who have done an install) whether you need camber plates. I am only looking to lower the car about 30 - 35mm front and rear. Overall opinion on this kit would be appreciated.

The other contender (for reference) is the vogtland coilover kit. No where near the adjustability (and I'm fine with that) and a little easier on the wallet - and build quality looks good.

Thanks in advance

There's a lot of variables really. How low you go, what you plan to do with the car, how long you want your tyres to last etc

You'll probably find that natural camber will be moving up towards -2, so really you have to work out if you'll want to adjust it from there or not. My car is pretty damn low on BC coils and natural camber is at -2.2 (I have plates but that camber works well for me).

As for the shockworks kit, the rear doesn't really go low enough for my liking from what I've seen, but YMMV

I have the Shockworks coilovers and they are fantastic. Did my research beforehand and all positive on them. If they're good enough for Mustang Motorsports Targa Mustang they'll do me. Mine were fitted by a Mustang Motorsport recommended shop and the car was lowered 30mm all round. I remember some discussion about camber adjustment and I know they did something but I don't believe they added plates . They did send the car to another shop for camber adjustment and wheel alignment, and I recall that was to set it to the manufacturers recommendations.

What I do know is that with 275 front 305 rear MPS4S tires and the Shockworks coilovers the grip is as good as my previous BMW V8 M3. Sure you can still make it wheelspin in second if you try (mine has @360kw at the flywheel) it doesn't just wheelspin when you don't expect or want it to, like it did in its stock setup.

Hey mate

Many thanks for the feedback - really appreciated. quick question. What's the ride quality like. I get that it will be harder at the minimum setting and I'm cool with that - just wanting some thoughts on ride quality for daily drive - long distance highway etc. But great to hear about the performance.

Hi,

Ride quality feels better than stock. I originally had it set at 4 (out of 0 to 10) and it was a bit firmer but still comfortable (a bit like a Porsche). I spoke to the owner of Shockworks and he said that for street driving (even spirited) conditions these coilovers were designed to be run at zero. I then dropped it down from 4 to 0 and did notice better grip from a standing start and when exiting from roundabouts or making a turn into a traffic lane from a standing start. All of the times while driving on the streets that you want great grip. If you want to track it then you dial it up to 10 and its as stiff as and good for 200k plus speeds, really planted, and no floaty or wallowing feel about it at all.
Mine is a daily drive and I find it much more pleasant to drive than stock. Long trips, highway everything is better, nothing harsh about it at all.

Cheers,

Awesome feedback, thanks. I have Shockworks coil overs and Whiteline sway bars and links going In on Tuesday! Upgrading the FR3 track handling pack.

The shockworks coilovers have camber adjustment built in. I can get to at least -2.5 if I need to. Hard to get to but not impossible. Look at the top of the strut mount through the coil tower and you’ll see the set screws that you use to tighten and loosen the top of the strut, allowing you to move the top in and out. Good alignment place will recognise it.

I have Shockworks Coilovers and have had -2.5 on the front and -2 on the rear since January. Doesn’t kill insides of the tyres too badly and stops the scrubbing of the sidewalls on track days and hard road cornering.

No camber plates to get that as mentioned above.

I've noticed most shops tech's are trained to adjust to "Factory spec's" I dropped my pony 1.5 front 1.1 rear and the camber is at -1.3 front & -5.1 rear. It is my understanding 2.4 front & rear are ideal for our cars. I just want to get there, & am trying to find a shop that can achieve this. Firestone here in the states won't comply with my request.

You need to find an independent shop that specialises in F/E alignment. With tech’s who actually know something about wheel alignment, not Nintendo. Race shops are a start. Tell them what you need, but be prepared to pay a little for it. It’s worth every penny.
