What is this component above my glove box

if it's hooked up take it back to the dealer ASAP and have them rip it out and run full diagnostics.

if it was just sitting in there... maybe the guy left it there from some other project.. i'd still have ford run a full diagnostics on it.

if this car was NEW, return it. because that should defiantly NOT be there in a new car.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the car is used. The box is powered on and hooked up. Several of the connections look oem like it is spliced into the system. I wonder if it is for a front camera or something.
I have the stock Premium display and nothing looks out of the ordinary with the screen or how you navigate through it.

So...you need to look at the front grille and maybe the door mirrors. Perhaps you have more exterior views available than you realize!

I’m thinking it’s an aftermarket GPS. Any chance you got a copy of the window sticker with your car to see if it had GPS from the factory?

Possibly a cellular video uplink with audio capture and some other telemetry capabilities.
Possibly just video interface with invehicle display.
The SIM card is out so it is likely not doing anything and can be disconnected.

You could carefully open the case and post more pics.
Might be a Renesas SH77xx based solution.

SCP is likely the SASS provider and that label covers the hardware vendor info.
There should be an FCC ID: underneath that sticker.

Doesnt look like a Calamp unit, more likely Teletrac or some other provider that includes video uplink or possibly display integration to invehicle screen.

I scoured the car but I don't see any camera's anywhere. There is nothing hooked up to the video input anyways. I have found a few similar systems online but nothing indicates that this one is active other than it is getting power when the car is on. and the button sequences on the examples I found online do not do anything.
Sigintel- I may take you up on the offer- I just want to make sure nothing adverse happens when I disconnect it.

It could also be one of those systems that "Buy Here/Pay Here" dealers use to shut the car down if you don't make your payments.

Can you put in a destination in the GPS or watch a DVD on the screen while you're driving? If so that's your answer.

Its a unit that bypasses the built in protection from Ford. It passes along the correct GPS location to your head unit, but tells your car you're going 0 MPH or are in Park so you (or your passenger) can input addresses or watch movies/DVDs while driving.
