But I depressed the clutch again right when I heard the loud roar of the engine at around 5K RPM and prevented it from going any higher. Do I need to be worried? Everything seems fine...

Nope, as long as you didn't actually let the engine overrev then you have nothing to worry about. It's no different than putting it in neutral and revving the engine to 5k well within its safety margin.

If there was a problem you'd know already.

But usually the gear really resist going in 1 at higher speeds, there's a sychro that matches the gears up. So I'm assuming you missed the 2 to 3 shift?

For some reason I haven't been able to get smooth shifts in to 3rd in this car unless I'm really gunning it and I thought this was another one of those times while not paying attention... my mind in cruise control because of the boring commute to work.

Thanks for the input guys.

Shifts to 2nd and 3rd were pretty rough on my car too. I recommend getting a MGW shifter. My shifts are buttery smooth now.

Well, that MT82 is not considered "bolt action smooth" so be mindful when shifting. I've botched a few myself.

One thing you might need to be concerned about is you spun the input shaft and clutch up to 8000+ RPM. I think the stock clutch is known for coming apart even at lower revs than that, but maybe (over)heat is a factor in those failures.

How do you even managed to do that?
Most transmission won't have enough synchro power to engage 1st gear without double clutching.

I was wondering the same thing. At 50 mph, I didn't think it would drop into 1st, without force and a corresponding grind or clunk.

IM JK, every owner does this at least once in their cars lifetime and every owner then needs to be reassured that their baby will be ok, so im here to tell you she is just fine.

Its either catastrophic or nothing at all.
