At a meet this weekend I was informed of the best and worst hood struts to buy.

As I'm an ageing old fart I have forgotten which was which.. Can anyone recommend please?

Redline and steeda = good

and if you spoke to a certain chap (james)

Ford performance are the worst (as his were misaligned and ripped his fender off)...

eh? I have Ford Performance struts - perfect fit and work flawlessly. If they 'ripped his fender off' then something drastically wrong with the install?

I told him that... Bit of missinformation, basically, he had LHD fitting ones and theyy were fitted a bit wonky, pushed his fender out of alignment.!

Same here, I wanted the Ford logo so it looked more "stock"...and they have been just fine for over a year.

So, are the LHD kits different then??

I also like the FP ones as they have an engraved ford logo in them??

My FP ones fit and work absolutely fine. If they're LHD/RHD specific, I almost certainly have the LHD variety.

Thanks for the useful advice guys. I went for the Ford ones in the end because the Steeda look the same but don't have Ford on them, and they're more expensive!!

Got mine from JWR for ÂŁ118 delivered. Funnily enough, this is the same price as buying off eBay and paying customs up front??

Fuck knows mate, honestly, I said the same thing to him (That i doubt hood struts would push the fender out) but he insisted it was and changed them, i remember him mentioning it at a few meets. etc etc etc. But yes, i don't believe it for a second either and i know of loads with FP struts.

Wasn't there something about stressing the bonnet at the edge of the hinge with some of them?
