Love the build and the car looks great! Question for you about the Steeda jacking rails. I noticed that you have the car on jack stands at either end of the jacking rails. Does the car seem balanced front to back on them? They seem like they are too short to support the car like that and maybe it would tip forward or back easy?

That's what I thought as well, but they have pictures of several guys sitting in the trunk as well as tons of feedback from lots of happy customers. I always shake the car a little to make sure it's secure before starting work and the car is solid. FWIW, the BMR rails are longer if you want to put your mind more at ease while working on the car.

I've been enjoying driving the car around on nice days with the family since AutoX and track season ended. I've been busy with work, but have been collecting parts since last summer.

I picked up a mix of suspension stuff:

-BMR sway bar end links, vertical links, and cradle lockout kit
-Steeda subframe alignment kit and Rear LCA spherical bearings
-Ford Performance toe link to knuckle spherical bearing

Install was pretty self-explanatory. I have a 20ton press so I removed the components to hopefully make it easier. The difficulty is finding a configuration to be able to get the control arm and knuckle at a level angle to press out the old bushing and press in the new bearing. The LCA was easier than the knuckle. The steeda install tool made things easier for sure. On the toe link to knuckle, it was a real PITA. I ended up getting all thread, nut, and washers from home depot to make a device to do the job. I used a 36mm socket, to press the bushing out. I used the ball joint adapter on the backside and it worked perfectly. All in all, it took waaaay more time than I anticipated.

Everything out:

I also picked up a Velox rear diffuser:

With work and family keeping me busy, I didn't have as much time as I'd like to get everything prepped. That's ok though. Both are much more important than cars. :) I worked on it all day Friday getting all the suspension stuff, diffuser, and the usual aero/track stuff installed.

We headed out so I could drop the truck, trailer, and car off at Road Atlanta so I can fly in next weekend after work. The alternator went out on my truck at about 2am so we had to get a hotel for the night until the parts store opened. Luckily, the snow came through that night :)

Nothing like a little part store parking lot repairs when it's wet and cold. Builds character.

I made it to the dyno in Tennessee at Skye Performance. They are an awesome shop that I highly recommend for any of you middle Tennessee folks:

I wasn't sure if I was going to make the horsepower level in my class so I played it safe and didn't run E85. Even so, with just the GT350 IM, JLT intake, and conservative tune... the car picked up 38rwhp (both using NASA required SAE corrected numbers with smoothing factor of 5)

Made it to Road Atlanta:

Now I wait until next weekend. Can't wait! Road Atlanta this weekend and VIR the following weekend. AutoX the weekend after that. NCM with MVP the weekend after that.

I also picked up an exedy twin disc clutch and flywheel and some TSP headers. I'll get them installed at some point.

Also of note, I have the finally released Hawk DTC brake pads on their way to me and will get packed into my carry-on. More to follow!

Great mods! I did similar upgrades to my rear suspension when installing the Ride Techs. You are right... the bushing replacements took me more time than anything else.

I'm curious about your clutch choice. Everyone here seems to be going to McLeod twin discs. Why the Excedy?

Have fun next week, I'm jealous!

Thanks!

I found a really good deal on the exedy clutch. It's also what most of the actual Ford racers recommend(kohr motorsports, for example). I'm sure either would be fine though.

Nice mods, I'll just copy you. Going to get the same clutch and waiting for your thoughts on the diffuser.

Enjoy Road Atlanta, I love that track.

There's a thread over on Track Mustangs where an unfortunate fellow had an RXT fail in a pretty big way.

I can't post a link to it, for some reason this forum keeps converting the url for Track Mustangs to "mustang6g". Very weird, it does it even when I use plain text. The thread is in their road racing forum, "Captdistractions STR2/GTR build", Page 19 Post 377 down near the bottom of that page.

Enjoying reading this build, like the approach you've taken to your car and building it.

Yeah, I think this site has a select group of forums it competes with and won't let you link to those sites.

Thanks for the tip though, I will go over there and search for that thread. I don't need a clutch yet, but I assumed McLeod was the way to go since there is so much talk about them here. Based on Brent's experience I'm more inclined to look at Excedy now.

I don't have anything against McLeod. I had one(not an RXT) in my LS1 RX7 before I went with the Danny Popp Quartermaster setup.

Hawk if finally releasing some good compounds for our PP brakes. I've always been a big fan of Hawk pads plus they offer a NASA contingency. I just got my hands on a set of DTC-70 fronts. They are getting packed in the carry on. :D

They don't have the DTC-60 or DTC-70 available for the rear yet, only the DTC-30 so I'm going to give them a shot and see how they work. I have my carbotech XP10's as a back up if the abs goes nuts. I'll report back how the combo works.

If anyone is interested in the Hawk pads, hit up [email protected] for a price quote.

I have been able to upload this video. My father-in-law came out and I took him for a ride in DE4. I think he had fun. He has a bunch of mustangs, to include three pristine 1966's.
