How convenient that all a tuner has to say about blowing your 15 up is, darn, daggone rod bolts got another one.

So, how many times has Livernois had to pull that excuse out with their tune? Hmmmm, let's see, oh yes, ZERO.
Clarify that statement?

I believe the point he is making is that all tunes are not created equally and the primary cause of the failures are the tunes from certain tuners. It does appear that is the case since all of the failures have been tune related and some tuners have few to no failures while others have multiple failures. This thread does include a livernois tune failure so they are no longer untouched by the failure.

2015 with engine built in Spain. Livernois tune. Engine blew at 65,000 miles. Number one piston cracked wide open. New short block installed.
There has also been a Cleveland tune failure on M6G so the problem is not only Spanish engines.

Ecoboom thread:

Motor is built on Cleveland. March 24th 2015
If the rod bolts, or other manufacturing defects were the primary cause of the problem we should see an equal failure rate for untuned EB engines but we do not. The tuners would also have a more even number of failures but we see an uneven number of tuner failures. Of course this could just be dumb luck but that is rarely the case.

The primary cause based on the available information points to a tuning issue along with unknown circumstances (manufacturing defects like rod bolt torque, seasonal, other modifications, etc). The fact that the 2016-2017's have not failed with the same frequency could be related to the tuners changing their tune based on the information from the 2015 failures.

Thank you very much everyone for your advice and suggestions. I have decided going with stock engine with no tune, and putting the stock IC back. Here are some reasons why I decided this.

1. Adam suggested me that installing the stock engine is my best bet. And Livernois told me that the factory warranty that I would get back is a solid investment. Both are the built engine specialists, if both say the similar thing, I should probably follow their suggestion.
2. Getting back to the warranty makes me feel safe.
3. When I feel that the stock ecoboost is boring in the future, I can install Ford Racing ProCal tune with full warranty. It needs to be installed by a dealership. It seems like many people like the tune.
4. I will save $2-3K, and use it for my future vacation. :)

Thanks again everyone! I will come back here and update the status of my car after the new engine installed.

Nice! Glad you asked for advice it's sometimes hard seeing all options when right in the moment. Keep us updated on the process and final cost.

Are you sure? I think he ran the 10.90 on the built motor right?
10.73 100% stock motor, 10.6x on built short block / stock head

Yes but I think if being honest, nobody would say that solution had any life expectancy...

um what? He drove the car DAILY to, and from work I think around a 100 miles, and raced it at the strip usually 2 times a week for thousands of miles, the car ran prob 100+ 10 sec passes. Dead stock motor. I would call that pretty damn good life expectancy

Since you have 30k miles on the car, a Ford ProCal, will not get you 3/36 on the new motor. I'm sure Jbailer can give you exact numbers, since he is the ProCal warranty guru.

Your mileage is almost exactly the same as mine. Regarding the FP Tune later, you do know that it will only cover until 3/36 from original vehicle purchase right? So if you went that route, you probably have less than a year or less than 6k miles I believe. If you do it, you wouldn't have coverage on the power train after the 3/36 FP warranty expires so if gaining that warranty on the new engine is important to you beyond 3/36 from original vehicle purchase, I'd leave it stock. When Ford says you'll go back to the 5/60, they mean 5/60 from original purchase. Putting the FP tune on it isn't a time reset either.

I would use that as a minimum recommendation. If you believe it is different, I would encourage you to discuss it with Ford Performance and the service manager at your dealer.

I'd have to hear that from him and doubt I would. When he ran that time, he admitted it was pushing it very hard and would be the last time he ran it with that engine in it.

Hey perfweld this guy is doubting you daily drove the car, and put prob close to 100 10 sec passes on it with the stock motor that came in the car. In fact that motor never even blew up. You pulled it out running fine to have it built if I remember correctly. But hey what do I know, you only tell me everything that's going on with your car because we sponsor all your builds. The internet always knows all....;)

You do realize he ran 10.8x-10.9x literally every time he went to the strip which as I said was many times twice a week for an extended period of time. He cranked it a little harder for the 10.73, but the motor held.

Getting a little defensive? I absolutely did not say that. I said that last run he was pushing it really hard and planned to pull the engine right after that race... :tsk:
