Again, I'll ask what is going to be so great about the S650? Yes, I'll take even pure speculation.
It'll have the sweet new 14 speed auto and a TT 5.2FPC with KERS and magnetic dampening under the seats and look just like the GT350.

Oh I forgot to add - all carbon fiber body panels.

I'd go for the 2017 because you'll get a better deal, nicer design and better colors. The 2018 aside from being uglier is going to be a short-lived design. The S650 will have all those upgrades from the 2018 plus an all new lighter platform. I will pull the trigger later in the year for a 2017 GT premium/pp race red or lighting blue.
Looks are subjective.

With this train of thought, all vehicles are short-lived and you shouldn't buy any of them. Why buy the S650 when a couple of years later there will be a refresh, and then a S750 in 2026.

Buy what you want/can afford. I personally think the new upgrades in the refresh would be hard to pass up. However you can get a better deal on a pre-refresh model.

Absolutely not.

The GT350 is what the 2015 should have been in terms of hood lines and forward visibility.

The 2015 front facia along with the steeda redesign is much more pleasing to look at than the ugly as sin bag of smashed assholes front end of the 2018. Simply mournful.
I tried reading all of this but got stuck on this part in particular... I'm just trying to envision a bag of smashed assholes and form it into the shape of a Mustang. I've heard all sorts of comparisons to what cars can look like. But this is on a whole 'nother level.

I think a lot of people felt the same way though when they first saw the refresh. However it's starting to grow on a lot of people as well including me.

I agree with others wait for performance numbers and then make the decision. However I'm going to call it now the 18 will totally be worth it

The big change/S650 is coming very soon; by the time the 18s hit dealerships only about 1.5 years.

Personally I would wait to see what 2020 brings if I had a 2014. Itll only be 6 years old then still. Unless you have another $9-10 grand to blow 2 years from now; $20k in the hole.

Say what? s650 is fall of 2020, no? How do you get 1.5 years from fall '17?

The announcement not release. January 2019 auto show we will likely see what the 2020 S650 is; that is 1 year 9 months way from now; about 1.5 years from the 2018 hitting dealership floors.

You make a good financial case for '17.

Will be interesting how many GT350 improvement, if any, they've brought into '18 GT. We've heard magneride option and standard GT350 style flywheel & clutch. But many of the GT350 improvements don't cost more to manufacture. They just required engineering time with different performance goals. So they might be added at no cost. Just like '15-17 engine uses most Boss improvements. I can see (but don't know) '18 heads having GT350 smaller cam base circle, valve train geometry, valve springs & rockers. They require a new casting for DI anyway. This would allow larger stock & aftermarket cams. Improved main bearings, oil pan, windage tray and oil pump from GT350. Revised rear lower control arms with different left vs right wound coil springs. Hood is lower so future GT350 or GT500 wider front fenders might bolt directly to GT. Many other small no cost improvements that I can't remember at the moment.

Mindset

If you take that kind of mindset, you'll never buy a car. Always going to be something better. I'll be waiting for the S750.

I'm just happy there's such a huge aftermarket for these cars. Don't really care much how it is in stock form as long as it looks great.
This is why I chose mustang, for the build, as I have built 3 or am building my 3rd pony car. These aftermarket companies allow us to have either a drag car or a road course pony. I enjoy running through the twisty's and want to enjoy the car on the edge. Here's the last pony I built.
