Also, "lugging" is a term that doesn't really apply properly to drive-by-wire engines. Since the pedal is just a request for opening the throttle you can't really force the engine into dangerous territory. The computer compensates.

With mechanical throttles you could easily open the butterfly valve(s) and overfuel an engine in dangerous territory in the power curve.

When you go instant WOT in the S550 the computer ramps the throttle body open gradually while adding fuel until the TB matches the pedal request. Designed for the lowest common denominator (people who can't drive).

When you go instant WOT in the '65 you risk a stall. Between the sudden pressure differential change across the butterfly valve(s) and the Venturi relying on the Bernoulli Principle to get fuel into the engine you'll have a lean moment before going rich. If your engine speed isn't high enough and you don't have enough momentum in the vehicle, it's like trying to stand up underneath a waterfall. Mechanical throttles actually took driver skill to run best.

Throttle maps weren't a thing.

I was assume due to the high RPM nature of the Voodoo, a GT350 would be less likely to enjoy acceleration at lower RPM's in 6th. But that's logic based thinking, not fact. If I'm doing north of 70 I will leave it in 6th. Normally up until about 55-60 I'm in 5th due to drone/exhaust noise. I like the gurgle of riding by at 2k+ rpms.

I just push the accelerator and it does whatever it wants:shrug:hehe

Back on track. My previous PP car i would use 6th in town cruising at 40 for cryin out loud. Ya sure if you wanted to accelerate a bit drop down a gear or two, but to just maintain speed it's perfect. On the highway (60+) 6th is perfectly fine to pass someone given enough room. All depends how much of a hurry you are in to get around them.

I throw it in 3rd gear when I pass someone. Brings the RPM's to 4K and your in the power zone. It's such a rush of adrenaline.

Or 4th gear I quess. I've got regular 3.30 gears btw. Everybody on this forum has 3.73 gears in there PP car so 3rd gear would be to funky I quess

My auto with 3.55 at WOT up to about 70 will go down to 3rd. Can do 110 in 3rd;). Not that I know, just I've heard;);).

Wait what? 110 in 3rd? I'm 3.55 M6 and can only go up to 95 in 3rd.

I typically won't go more than half throttle or so in 6th (not sure if that's pushing it for what's bad for my piston rods, but even that I won't do often), but I'm amazed by how it pulls even in that top gear. Hell, you can feel the acceleration just being in cruise control and turning the speed up.

... Obviously nothing I'm describing above is kick-in-the-pants acceleration (like the first couple gears), but relatively speaking, it's pretty impressive nonetheless.

Auto has completely different gearing with the planetary gears than the manuals. Be lucky you get 95 in 3rd I get 80.

Forgot to mention, I don't do 6th gear that often unless I'm on a highway like the NYS Thruway for example. 55mph in 6th gear with 3.30 gears is roughly 1500 RPM's wich is to low for me. Not a fan of the slow bog ride. Even my Harley don't like it that low.

Buy yeah I usually throw it in 3rd (4000 RPM's) or 4th when I pass someone. You don't want to dilly dally when your doing that IMO. YMMV.
