Out of curiosity, is the auto have a lower ratio set? I see a lot of autos with 3.15 rear end which seems a bit tall...I've seen maybe one auto with a 3.31 but that may have been a swap.

If my understanding is correct, it's based off package you buy.... This car is a base model so came with 3.15s

I have an auto PP car with the 3.55. Just depends on the package/options you have.

In regards to autos, the base gear set is 3.15. The optional gear set upgrade is a 3.31. The Performance Pack upgrade is 3.55.

In regards to manuals, the base gear set is 3.31 and the Performance Pack is 3.55.

Also, the gears within the transmission are ever so slightly taller in the 6R80 (auto).

3.15s just give me an excuse to go BIG when I upgrade the turbo.... Have to grow into my gears right? Lol

That's what I was referencing, not the rear end. I was talking about the transmission ratio. If the 6R80 has a slightly taller set and a 3.15 rear end, the auto EB"s are driving quite a tall final drive compared to a PP manual...makes me think for big turbo or highly modded bolt one the 3.31 might be a good way to go when running street tires.

I've long contemplated going to a 3.31 when I add a big turbo because I have to shift into 4th about 100' before the line with factory height tires. Although, in place of swapping gears, I might try a 28" tall tire.

And for future reference:

I've read a few statements about the car bogging down with 3.55 rear end and I couldn't put my finger on why they were saying that. Only thing that could come to mind is they were referring to a stock EB...

Then I realized they were referring to running DR's...well that's obvious, especially if your running 28" DR's because your changing the final drive...running a 3.73 would make sense, or something even shorter. But that would make it a ill suited for street use, which is a path I can't take (dedicated drag car / weekend toy).

I still think I can get into the mid 12's on good street tires with a 3.31 rear end and 93 with supporting hardware. I won't be as consistent as an auto, but if I can do it once, I can prove the car is capable pending the driver.

Yo Ken ran a 12.1 on adam tuned 6MT with a 3.55 rear end (not sure if had DR's, but it was in the bolt on category and I think it was on a 93 tune as well), there's two other 6MT's, one with a 12.7 and 13 flat. Also the black 6MT eb that ran 12.9 on the factory eagle F1's. People keep saying I can't get into the 12's, but there's quite a few examples that shatter that.

All 3.55 rear ends mind you as they bought PP models. I'm still really curious to see if the 3.31 helps or hurts with the manual on street tires. On a stock EB it's gonna hurt because power is an issue, especially with that anemic top end and IC heat soak, but on a well tuned and bolt on supported car the story will undoubtedly change...the question remains as to how much.

For reference on the track. My friend's e30 tune + just ran a 13.1 @ 102 at the same exact DA and track today. It's honestly just too hot out here in SoCal right now with this 91 e30 mix. Once cooler weather comes it both Lund and Tune + should be getting our cars flying.
