So I was browsing other sources and saw that the Mazda 72.2mm TB can possibly fit our cars. These are next to nothing in price and you still get the "FOMOCO" stamp so if this did work for those worried about warranty this would be an even bigger plus. While most of us can agree the 73MM TB is absurdly priced even for what it offers, the Mazda 72.2mm TB would fit the price/performance ratio much better and make it worth doing (these can be had anywhere from $65-$199). Does anyone have a CX-9 as a second vehicle with a 72.2mm TB who would like like to confirm? Hard to tell just by looking at the pictures but the only real difference I see is the orientation of the cylindrical housing (Mazda CX9 - Left / Mustang Unit - Right)

I would be scared to try I had a lancer gts a long time ago which everyone swore you could use the bigger throttle body from a v6 eclipse, So I bought one and tried but the wiring must have been different because all it did was make the car idle real bad and trying to move it wouldnt go, I would be worried about the wiring.

That would be the one thing someone would worry about. I wonder who will try it though.

bigger question is....bolt spacing, though a adapter plate would be fairly easy to make. cool find btw!

I would imagine there is a large chance of the spacing being the same. It should not be too bad to test; once bolted up and you start up the car. If the car is sputtering, immediately shut off the vehicle and call it quits. I do wonder if pin outs are the same. If this was a viable option this would really be a better alternative over the 73mm BBK unit which can go up to over $400.00.

Interesting...

I did this on my 99 Cougar. You could buy an SVT TB off an SVT Contour and bolt it up to the Cougars 2.5L Duratec V6. OR.... You could pull the TB off of a 3.0L Duratec Taurus, which was far cheaper and much easier to find in a junkyard. That TB made a ton of difference for the 2.5L.

Do cx9s share the same engine with us?
Essentially yes, however they are detuned and use Mazda electronics rather than Ford electronics. Mazda calls their version the "MZI" while Ford's codename is "Cyclone". Why did the detuned cuv engine get the bigger throttle body is beyond me.

For sure, with 270ish HP it's still gonna move.
