So with the zillion or so threads about the EcoBoosts, EcoBeasts and EcoBooms - and some prior mentions of Ford possibly changing engine design from 2015 to 2016 (true or untrue), I figured this may be a good thread.
So let's compare engine cast/stamping information to see if there can be a documented change between model years. This may (or may not) verify some of the statements in various threads that Ford has made some engineering changes. Maybe it could even help with deciphering why there are documented instances of 2015 built engine failures and no 2016 failures...?
State only following in your response:
1) Vehicle year: 2016
2) Perforlmance Pack equipped (Y or N): Yes
2) Vehicle build date: December 2015
Note: you can get your build date from (A) original window sticker or (B) Driver side VIN sticker found on inner B-pillar door jamb.
3) Provide pic of engine stamping(s):
To find engine stampings:
Pop hood. On passenger side, look below engine cover at side of engine block. First stamping will be cast into block & closest to bottom of head. 2nd laser etched & stamped digits will be below that, forward towards front of engine.
FACTOID; To verify VIN of engine block matches vehicle VIN:
For those looking to buy an EcoBoost (or for future reference), to tell if the engine is the original "numbers matching" to the vehicle, look at the passenger side of engine block, back towards firewall where the trans bell housing meets the back of the engine block. On the flat smooth surface at rear and on top of block, the last (8) digits of the VIN will be stamped into that flat spot of the engine block. If the number is missing or does not match the VIN, then the engine (or block) is not original from factory.
