Does this happen regardless of the road surface? Like on back roads vs highways? When I had 305 cup 2's on the front of my car the tramlining was so bad I thought the steering rack failed. I doubt in your case anything is wrong because it occurred after going to wider tires, so I wouldn't be...
Sounds like you are describing "tramlining". The tires sort of run their course following ruts in the road pulling abruptly left or right regardless of steering input. It's a common issue when going to big tires on the front of these cars. There are things that can make it better and...
I was going to say this exact thing. Ceramic coating isn't magic. If the finish of the wheels reacts negatively to the dust (and mainly heat), ceramic coating won't stop that from happening.
I use R12's and they ruined the finish of my Forgestar wheels. But it might have just been the finish itself was garbage. The dust seems to wipe right off the Apex wheels. So I guess your results may vary.
From Apex's fitment guide:
Wheels Front & Rear: 19x11" ET52
Available in: EC-7, SM-10, VS-5RS, EC-7RS, SM-10RS
Additional negative camber is required up front. We recommend at least -2.75*
25mm spacers, extended wheel studs, and open lug nuts are required up front for strut clearance
No...
No, only the fronts. You would get 19x11 50mm offset which would fit the rear with no spacer. This now allows you to rotate the tires front to back, extending their life.
Yes, those would work fine. Swapping the studs is a fairly easy job. Then just get a slip on 25mm spacer, OP Mustang sells all of this stuff as well. If it were up to me, I would just pony up the extra cash and go with the 19x11's. Buy once, cry once!
If you do end up going with those, 305/30's...
I know this doesn't answer your question, but if these are going to be dedicated track wheels/tires, why not 11" wide with 305's? You could do an 18x11, or a 19x11. Tires for the 18's are a tad cheaper. I prefer the 19's myself. 305's fit just fine on the front with a 25mm spacer and extended...
Both the forgestar and apex are flow formed.
I quickly installed this wheel to make sure I had no issues with clearance. I'll make sure to check rotation once I get the new tires mounted.
Back in business! Miraculously found a guy selling an S550 just 30 minutes away with an Apex 19x11 square set up. He was generous enough to separate them from the car sale. Picked up a set of tires from him as well. Thanks again Rich!
Don't mind my messy garage.
