Since oil consumption concerns you, it will also concern whoever you in turn sell it to unless you can document your's doesn't. Regardless, they seem to still sell.
If you can pick up a 2016-18 with a replaced motor likely won't have an oil consumption issue.
No one knows what percentage of...
This. All you guys suggesting these wonderful, insightful, and erudite evaluations are great but probably beyond most of our abilities without experience, a shop manual, multiple trips to Harbor Freight, and a dedicated helper. What would be most helpful is if someone knew a shop near him in CA...
Hard to believe there is no paperwork on the service. Not that I doubt you but not something a service department should not have some paper/computer record of so would double check.
If you can't get it, then can't be certain 5w50 used and filter torqued to spec nor which filter used, so would...
Will add my 2017 Avalanche Gray, black roof, black stripes owned since new, now 72,500 miles and hibernates every winter. Agree it would be interesting but of doubtful significance to know how many original owners of these earlier years still own. My guess is as a percentage probably higher...
Nothing to add. You hit it on the head. Either check cold, or remove the dipstick wait 10-15 minutes for oil to drain out of the tube and then check level. I prefer the latter as checking after warm up is what I believe was stated in my 2017 manual but that's just me.
Fear:
Walking into your cubby of lockers at the gym
where somebody just farted or shat their pants
and left, and you are trying to get dressed as quickly
as possible before someone else shows up and
blames you.
Thanks for the follow up. Problem is driving around here is out of the question for months at a time on summer tires at temps below 32 degrees and on ice/snow packed roads and even side streets to get to a bare road. And the "hard no" above agrees with data on prolonged idling til warm up. But...
Now that is interesting. Since I hibernate the car for 5 months a year in winter, makes me wonder if I'm more prone to failure because of that? Has your engineer done any reproducible studies to demonstrate that outcome in vehicles left sitting or unused for defined periods of time plotted...
Yes, the second one in now in the process of failing is Ford/Motocraft replaced under warranty. First one OE went out at around 45000 miles (actually sooner but I don't need AC much where I live) and the second now at about 75000 miles.
