Update: My A/C still works great after the evaporator was changed in July 2018.

I just did a fluid and filter change on my 2016 with a 6R80 and it also had a second magnet in the pan, so I assume they all come that way.

That's a great question. Reading through this thread I have seen people with multiple failures and some I believe were with the revised/updated part numbers... Maybe the updated part is better, maybe it will fix the problem and the people that have had the new part number fail are...

2016 Evaporator... Failed.... Just got the official word from the dealer that at 21,000 miles my 2016 V6 has a bad evaporator. Part is on order and the car will go in for the fix next Tuesday. I will let everyone know the part number of the new evap, but I expect there are no new revisions...

I agree, I doubt that Ford will expend any more energy or money on the 15-17 evaporators now that they have changed the A/C system in the new cars. The long term fix will have to come from the aftermarket - once the 15-17 Mustangs are out of warranty and there is a market for aftermarket...

Take a look at this video about the 6r80 auto transmission. It specifically addresses Explorer and F150 applications, but I assume it is similar in the Mustang. Long story short, it appears that a drain and refill is the best option. [ame]
