Does anyone have any tips for how to get the best use out of Apple CarPlay?

I just installed the USB hub on my 16 GT and I'm noticing that ACP is dominating the whole system. I liked having the home screen where I could see the map, song, and device connected with all of the functions on the bottom. Is there a way I could have ACP connected but still show the Ford Map?

Also, how come Waze isn't coming up? My system software was last updated on May 28th.

Don't use it. I don't see the need for ACP really when sync 3 can do most of it.

I got it mainly for Waze to double up with my radar detector when I'm in Mexico. I really enjoy Sync 3 which is why I don't like that ACP dominates the maps.

All I really wanted was Siri and Waze. Maybe PornHub.

The best use out of anything Apple is get an Android.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I don't even use Android Auto much myself since I use Google Fi. I just use Ford's Nav.

Apple Car play just sucks. I never use it. Apple will not allow use of 3rd party stuff like waze. If it did I'd use it.

I am glad that I got the HUB and I have the option of using the maps on ACP. When I went on a trip a year and a half ago the Navigation in Sync 3 couldn't find Watkins Glenn Race Track . Yeah I paid extra to have Navigation on my car. Holy crap that should be there. It also wanted to add a extra 3 hours to my 4 hour trip so I had to use my iPhone to get there as I didn't have ACP at the time and couldn't put the maps in my screen. So it's worth it to buy the hub and use the apple maps if needed but Apple Car play just sucks. YMMV

Thanks I appreciate it! I guess I'll keep it as an option, can't return the USB hub anyway now that I've installed it and it's only $66 to have it. I just have to figure out how to have it connected but not on ACP until I want it.

I just read an article that says Waze and GMaps will come with iOS 12. Here it is for anyone else that is interested.

ACP doesn't support Waze. Only Android Auto does at the moment. The 2019 Fords are supposed to have Waze capable ACP.

I wish the LCD gauge cluster interfaced with car play, or if there was a way to disable the carplay GPS apps from overriding Ford's GPS...I really like the turn by turn and nav info that can be shown in the cluster, and hate looking down at the 8" to get that info.

Should be true until iOS 12 as per the WWDC hosted by Apple

You can use Waze in the apps section but I believe it is somewhat buggy.

I have the port on my '16 and usually run with ACP disabled, because it tries to dominate even when you don't want it.

The Sync 3 is a better experience for most daily driving for me. I occasionally use ACP for longer trips when I have a complicated route that works in apple's stuff better than the sync 3 ford navigation, but usually ACP is turned off.

I will probably only use carplay when ios 12 is live ,due to the ability to use Google maps through it.. Apple maps = Garbage. I do like the ability to scroll through my itunes library however , but thats about it currently.

I have been using waze just fine... disable carplay, and use waze through the sync apps.

I wasn't too impressed with Waze or Google maps on Android Auto. There are less features and the resolution is poor in comparison.

What is nice with Android Auto is phone, text and voice assistant integration. But then you have to give up some Sync 3 functionality and maps in the process.

I use ACP a lot. I like the text integration and voice to text with Siri. Even with the top down, I have had no issues with Siri understanding what I’m texting. I also run Spotify through ACP without any issues. If you’re into, just press the button (home button) and it will let you get to the ford sync app. I often use the regular Nav with Spotify playing.
