Hi, guys, new to the forum. Every car I've owned since getting my license has been a Mustang, 1990 LX Convertible, 2001 GT Convertible, 2013 GT Premium Fastback, 2016 GT Premium Fastback. Anyway, I'm currently leasing that aforementioned 2016 GT, but before you gawk, I got a ridiculous deal on the lease that has made other Ford dealerships go "... how did you get it for that monthly payment?" (also leased the 2013 GT which I got a similarly ridiculous deal). My lease is up in September of 2019, meaning the soonest I could get out on an "early bird" would be April-ish, however, the dealership I've been talking to and was at yesterday ordered a 2018 GT Premium for me with everything I want, nothing down, as they said I get first dibs and if I don't want it when it comes in that they'll keep it and sell it to the next guy, stating that they'd get me out of the lease "extra early" if I do want it.

Now, here's the thing... That car should be here in late-January or early-February, but I saw the 2019 orders are coming early, like, March early. I REALLY doubt there's going to be anything different minus that Bullitt... I did hear that Ford may be offering more rim options for the performance pack and possibly "allowing" the alcantara seats with the 401a package (digital gauge cluster). I mean, honestly, though, the only thing the 2018 GT is missing that I REALLY wish it had is a full-on HUD and maybe a surround camera (I know, I know, but it's my daily driver :p ). I can't imagine that Ford is going to add either of those things to the 2019 since the 2020 is supposedly a full-on redesign. So, basically, I guess I'm asking - what features do you guys think are going to be added/changed/whatever for 2019 GTs?

Last thing, and sorry for making this long, but I was planning on just buying this one... but that 2020 MY redesign has me curious and I'm debating on leasing again (but only if I get another ridiculous deal... apparently this dealership hates the dealership I normally lease from and the salesman basically said "whatever they offer you, we WILL beat it" :D . And, when I say "hate", like they won't even trade with each other  ) - what do you guys think on that front? Does anyone know what the lease-rate (percentage) and the leasing fee are for the 2018s? Knowing those going-in has always allowed me to talk them down to that crazy-low lease payment by "guessing" the residual and going from there :p

Thanks!

PP2 supposedly won't be available till late 2018 plus a 2019 might avoid any initial issues with the updated car/engine/transmission.

If you are considering non GT's, maybe the GT500 will get released as a '19.

Im in the same boat, looking to order a 2018 after the first of the year but might wait to see what options will be different on the MY2019.

Thanks! I'm only considering a regular ol'GT Premium (though, fully loaded :D ). The GT500 is likely going to be a bit out of my price-range and I, unfortunately, cannot have a manual for my daily (otherwise I'd be grabbing a used GT350 w/2k miles for KBB Value from a Carmax :D ). Due to wrist and elbow injuries through the years, driving here and there with an MT is fine, but in traffic and on the regular is a no-go for me. One day when I keep an extra car in my garage a Shelby will be that car, though! Same with that GT PP2 which I think is for manuals only (?).
I'm not TOO concerned about transmission issues since that 10-speed is the same one that's already in the Camaro ZL1 and Raptor. :)

I thought about waiting too, but at some point you're continually just waiting one more year you know...
But, if you're patient you could just wait to pick up a lightly used 18.

Hahaha, I agree! But, in this case, well I mean, I'm on a lease that ends in September 2018, a dealership is looking to get me out early with a 2018 GT as soon as late January... or I can just wait a couple months more. :D

I just ordered mine today. Doubt they’ll be many changed to the 2019 with the short 2018 MY.

OP a few things to consider. Although 2019 orders open in March, they won't start building 2019s till mid-June meaning the car likely won't show up on the lot till end of July. Big difference from a car arriving in the winter that you can enjoy all spring and half of summer by the time 2019s arrive.

Also, the full S650 Mustang redesign isn't happening until calendar year 2021 for the 2022 model year since it got pushed back a little. So you have a little more time to wait for the all-new one if that's what you have your eye on.

Did you read my OP? :p :)

Here’s the cliff notes: I’m leasing a 2016 GT, early out begins in April/May, was fully planning for April-September for my next GT, a dealership is claiming that they’ll get me out in 8-10 weeks (February-ish) when the 2018 GT they just ordered comes in. 2019s start in March.

Hope this better explaint the situation - we’re talking a difference of a few weeks, not waiting years. :)

Ahhhhhh! Thank you! That makes sense. I thought this meant the 2019s would go into production in March as well and be in dealers by late-May/early-June!
With the redesign, I’m unsure, which is why I keep going back and forth on lease (again) vs buy - I’m getting a 2018/2019 regardless since my lease on the 2016 GT ends in 9 months :D
Also, had no idea that the redesign got delayed!

I would hazard to guess that there will be minimal differences between the 18 and 19 (maybe a color or trim option combination change). 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
