What options are available for a 12" wide wheel for the S550 platform? The goal here is to run the larger tire sizes (305 primarily, possibly 315/325/335) with more sidewall support than can be had with the more common 11" wide wheels. I have two different sets of 305's mounted on 11's now and they have a bolt-upright-straight sidewall profile. I'd prefer to stretch the tire slightly for better support for autocross/track driving.

How many 5x114.3 off the shelf 19" wheels come in 12" (or larger) widths? Are we into custom wheel ONLY territory? So far I've only seen the following:

Forgestar F14 (must be custom ordered, offset unknown)
Forgestar CF5 (must be custom ordered, offset unknown)

Forgestars are the only ones I was aware of.

Paul,

1. What about options in 19x12” ?
2. Which model(s) of wheel from the above manufacturers come in 12” width?

for a 19"

BC Forged any model
Forgestar F14/CF10
HRE any model
Forgeline any model

As for the brands above

pretty much the same thing, predominantly forged (so no Vossen CV or Hybrid Forged wheels in the mix)

What is the max backspacing allowable on the rear of a 15-18 with a 19" rim and a tire in the 27" range? Assume allowing for about 1" lowered suspension. At 8.2" backspacing on a 12" rim you would still be poking out, how much deeper can you go?

Interested in backspacing for the rear also as it will help figure out front. Yes I know “BURN THE WITCH!” we cannot fit 12” wheels up front... but consider the following:

Offset struts or coilovers with a smaller OD body
Fenders spaced out or wider fenders
Fender flares if desired
Minimal wheel/strut clearance
Smaller OD tire (25.5”-26” 305/30R19 RE71R)
Spring rates high enough that at full lock and full compression the fender does not contact the tire
Live with the remaining poke

To keep things simple, figuring out the backspacing (or offset) for the rear wheel is where we should start, and then figure out spacer thickness needed to run that same wheel up front.

@Paul@PKAUTODESIGN chime in?

It’s all going to depend on camber and style

Also I’ve worked with a member here that I supply wheels.

12” and 13” work upfront just needs some serious work and parts to make it happen !

@Paul@PKAUTODESIGN

Of the 12” wheels you’ve supplied to S550 owners so far, were they the same offsets front and rear, or different offsets to avoid needing massive front wheel spacers?

The fronts were not 12" so those normally are a 9.5" for the rear 12" they have been a few different offsets depending on the setup

I think BoardKat is running a 12 F, 13 R on his CAM-C car. But it is heavily modified.

He is the only person I have heard of running larger than 11" wheels up front.

12" in the rear shouldn't be an issue, other than it drives you out of the cheaper off the shelf wheels. What is the offset on the GT350R 11.5" rears, +69?.

Personally, I don't think there is enough tire selection in 19" at 305 and above to make it worth the effort and cost.

@boardkat and @Rexpelagi are the two I know of pioneering this setup for their autocross cars.

Maybe they will chime in here.

The OEM GT350R setup is as follows:

19x11 ET 24
19x11.5 ET 56

These 11.5” rears should work up front but they’ll need a spacer larger than 1” (likely 1.25”+). At that point it becomes more appealing to look into custom wheels/offsets and just go to 12” width squared. The F14 is the best option I can see for quality, custom sizes, and pricing. Plus the super deep concave looks amazing :)

These are my (2) current square setups:

18x13/335 Rival S
19x12/305 RE-71R

Have also run 18x11/315, 18x12/315 and 18x12/335 square setups at various points in the past (4) seasons. Even tried a staggered 12/13 this year. I am fastest on my current square setups.
