I just bought a used 2016 Mustang GT and it has a Borla exhaust. I'm trying to determine which one. It's quite a bit louder than stock but I don't know if it is the S-Type or ATAK version.

Are there physical differences visible when the mufflers are installed on the car to tell which one it is?

The Mustang was pristine and super-clean when I loaded it on the trailer at the dealership. However, after towing it 250 miles behind an F150 through fog, drizzle, rain and freezing rain, it's a mess. Once it stops sleeting/snowing, it'll be properly cleaned again.

If it's the ATAK it's wake-the-neighborhood loud. All loud all the time. If it's just solidly loud but not obnoxious it's the S-type. I'm sure there's something to see inside the mufflers too.

The Atak Mufflers say ATAK on them. The S Type just says Borla.

Thanks all. I'll slide under and check them out for markings.

Once I've had a chance to clean it up I'll post some pictures. It's triple yellow, which to me looks very similar to the color of the 2004 Screaming Yellow Mustang GT I owned for the first 7 years of its life.

Looks like I found my answer after wiping away a bit of road grime.

Then I tried to start it up and nothing but clicks. I checked out the battery with my tester and it was only showing 10 volts. Hopefully it's just a case of it sitting too long in the Illinois cold at the dealership before I bought it. It's on the charger now.

Interesting, mine just say Borla. Yours must be a newer revision.

Mine say just Borla as well. Very happy with the S-Type catback.

Yeah probably they don't sit well over time. My battery shows 11.6 most the time I been meaning to check the battery fluid

I've been debating that but am nervous of overall loudness as well as cold starts. Even more so now that my shift changed and I leave at 415 a.m.

I don't mind loud, the dronemaster super 10s were pretty loud, as long as it was equal or less I'd be ok with it

I really need to get to a cars and coffee and find someone with headers

Now I need to figure out if I have the S-type cat-back version or axle-back version. I am finding the volume a bit too boisterous for my tastes (yes, I am a geezer :)) and may go back to the stock exhaust or at least a tamer substitute.

Any pointers on how I can tell how much of the exhaust is Borla versus Ford?

Look right after the cats for an X/H pipe or resonator...either it's a)stock "suit case"resonator, then it's a axleback, b)X pipe built by 2 stamped pieces, then it's a catback, c)X or H pipe built with welded pipes, then it's an "off-brand" X or H pipe.
