A/C only blowing hot air out, hope it's not the dreaded condenser.
Dealer said they couldn't look at for six weeks, then managed to get it to three weeks when I moaned about it. They said if it just requires a re-gas it's not covered under the warranty so it will be chargeable. Is it a good idea to take it to an independent A/C specialist's to see what they think ?

Well that sounds like a load of crap - if the air conditioning system in a two year old car requires a re-gas there is clearly a significant leak somewhere.

A lot of us in Oz (along with the Americans as you know) are currently treading the A/C tightrope as our factory warranties are rapidly nearing their end - mine has been in twice so far.

Below is a link to our thread for your viewing displeasure.

If its blowing hot air on full AC then its the evaporator core fault and you have lost gas.Recharging it will only last a while. If you have cool air coming from 1 vent when on heat then you have blend actuator fault.

It's just blowing hot air from every vent.

Ford know about these faulty evaporator cores.
Even replaced ones are failing.
Don't be fobbed off with re gassing it wont cure the problem

Thanks for the info, be interesting to see how long it takes when they can eventually look at it.
I am seriously considering getting rid of it now.

I would imagine that you have either a leak, or a fault causing compressor to not kick in.

Ideal way to diagnose (and not many dealers I have seen do it, only independent A/C specialists do, is to put pressure gauges onto the system to check if it has dropped pressure or not.

If you have pressure, then its a wiring or sensor fault stopping the compressor from starting.

If no (or low) pressure you have a leak, and it could be anywhere.

Again ideal way is to, recover out any gas/liquid left in the system, and then fill with nitrogen to find the exact location of any possible leak.

Could be evaporator, could be condenser, could even be piping or a joint, have seen all of them on new cars and old cars makes no difference.

But before a tech dives in taking stuff apart you want to be certain what is at fault.

And most dealers I have worked for or heard of, do not have necessary qualifications to do it properly, they just bung on their machine and do a re gas.

Mine went on Thursday, the hottest day of the year so far. Only warm air coming out.
Booked into Lookers in 10 days time. Frustrating because it was in for service only the week before.
Glad I got a convertible...

Think I’d be tempted to have a specialist look first ( there’s some good mobile ones) as they’ll do a proper evacuation and test. I wouldn’t trust ford ( see what I did there?) to not just guess what they think it is and either just refill it or rip your dash out.

I wouldn't bet on it,there was a batch of early cars especially in hotter climates that were failing. The problem seems to be continuing. There has only been a few on the forum in the Uk that have had a problem,my one wasn't an AC fault as such but it did show signs of slightly warmer air on the drivers vent when on AC.I had half a dozen visits to the dealers to try and fix my particular problem eventually pulling the dash out.
Ford were supposed to be fitting updated cores but some have had them failed a few times over in the states.
As I've said, cold air on drivers vent when on heat will be electrical control problem, vents blowing out hot on AC will be core/leak.

Well, would you believe it A/C has packed up on my 15 month old Transit. Went into Epsom Ford and they can't look at it for over a month, they said it may just need a regas which would be chargeable. Took it to local garage I know, they had a look and found the compressor isn't kicking in. Let's see what bullshit Epsom Ford come up with.

“Just needs a regas is already bullshit”. It doesn’t just disappear
