I'm not saying this to be funny or facetious, but that's secret information, as in, anyone associated with the DoD that has a security clearance, and has a reason to know where or why that sub is where it is, could get in some serious trouble for disclosing it.

JR
If they were trying to keep the sub's location a secret, they weren't doing a very good job of it.

I suspect there was a problem.

That's likely, or they were doing some testing, but regardless...

Not to side track this thread, but your avatar is a sub. I departed FLL yesterday and Immediately off the coast was a nuclear sub (Virginia class I believe) on the surface heading south along the coast with an escort boat along side of it. It seemed very unusual to be there. Sure, I have seen them coming and going out of Kings Bay or Norfolk, but never something like this. Runway 10L, Runway heading, 15-30 seconds after feet wet, flew right over it.

Do you have any background in subs or insight on what it was doing there (on the surface IMMEDIATELY off the coast of FLL)?

Just a part of Naval exercises off Port Everglades......
It usually takes place around an undersea testing range operated
Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division’s South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility. :D

BTW, the ‘R’s’ look great...... keep us posted.

Relax...... They’ve been doing it for about 50 years. Now, if you bring up Groton, Connecticut..... that’s a different story :gossip:

Will do. I'm ordering the shifter, roll bar, brake pads, SRF fluid, and camber plates today. The fruit of a 120 hour credit month ;)

OP, sorry for the side track.

Back to the regular scheduled programming......

Precision Instruments PREC3FR250F Silver 1/2" Drive Split Beam Torque Wrench (50-250 ft lbs.)

Being a ‘split beam’ torque wrench, it does not require to be dialed down to ‘0’ to keep tension off the spring. As far as accuracy is concerned, it’s dead on.... when compared to Snap-On. You can get at a relatively good price from Amazon.... Approx. $160
I also have the same wrench in 3/8’s.
I just bought a Precision Instruments
PREC3FR250F, they make them for Snap On
My Snap On TQFR250 almost identical to the PI

They certainly do.... I also like the fact that they come with a Calibration Certificate.

I spent a crap-ton of $$$ and got one of the snap-on electronic ones. I had a cheaper one from a different company and it broke, so I decided to spend the money and hope I was buying more than just a name. So far, so good.

I like the electronic ones because it is very quick to change torque settings and because you do not need to release the spring load (like on the clicker types). I also have a couple mechanical craftsman ones that I have had good luck with (but they don't do the 150 ft-lbs required by the mustang).

I have a small 3/8 drive flex beam torque wrench that I have had for 40 years, back from when I started road racing karts. Goes up to 240 in-lbs and it works great for the oil filters on the GT350 because of the short beam and very low profile. Works in the access door and leaves room for my big hands.

Bought a used Snap-On 250 ft.lb. with articulating head on eBay for $160. Barely used, but you do have to watch for the ones that are beat on and/or engraved. Came with a case and was recalibrated about a year ago. Will have it redone sometime in the future, but is seems spot on with my recently calibrated one at 100 ft.lbs., so I'm guessing it's good.
