Yeah, that's what makes me really want to build it while it's out. It's all dependant on how much the trans costs to fix though. If it's $6k+ again like it was the first time, I won't be able to afford anything with the motor and I'll have to eat the useless labor.

What was 6K to begin with. Was it 6k to pull the trans and build it?
You paid $6k to have the trans built?!?!? :eyebulge:
$2,200 here for rebuild, exedy clutches, and billet intermediate shaft, and labor. Granted, no circle D at the time, but that seems awfully steep!

Surely you can get it a little cheaper at the shop your car is currently at. Best of luck!

Wow, thats unreal. Even with the Circle D price added thats $3400 more than what you paid. I didn't really know what to expect for pricing and my car was already towed there so not much I could have done to shop around. Horrible experience with that shop anyway so I wont be going back, warranty or not.

On a side note, still waiting to hear back what broke in the trans and the cost. I think I decided to sleeve my motor when I do build it. The cost of the trans will be the deciding factor though. If the trans is more than $2k to fix I'll probably just be putting the stock motor back in.

Im still a strong proponent of a tranny cooler especially on boost. Shame I dont think anyone makes one.
We have a trans cooler stock. A real one too, not one of those radiator end tank deals. Mishimoto does offer one that's a little bigger. I thought about it but I dont want to take my bumper off again

Really needs something slightly better. Id wish temps stayed below 200. Being sandwiched between radiator and condenser doesnt help.

Ford internally regulates the trans temp using a bypass. The bigger trans cooler is not going to make it run much cooler if any at all in day to day driving.

Hard for me to stay below 205 if I drive any decent distance during a hot day. If I do a pull I’m at 207+
Mine went to 205 stock, so I wouldn't worry about it much. Highest I've seen was ~218F on a 160mph WOT pull. Trans cooler may have helped lower that some but I don't do that often so oh well lol.

Good to know, I figured it was just wide open all the time from how long it takes for the damn trans to warm up lol. I don't think the trans cooler would help with daily driving either, but probably would help some on WOT pulls or track use.

Got some info back today.

The trans pump and pump housing/plate broke and thats what locked up the trans. They also found hot spots on the clutches so they will need to be replaced too.

Waiting on prices and ETA.

Good news for me, not counting the engine labor the trans repair is under $1400.

I think I'm going to just cut my losses and put the stock motor back in. Even if I'm giving up $2k now, hopefully the motor won't go until it's easier for me to swallow that repair bill financially. A $3k bill is alot better than $10k

Figured I'd update this thread.

I got the trans back, it was great for about 2 weeks and then took a crap. It suddenly started making a ton of noise. Whining/squealing noise from the trans, erratic shifting and the car dying/loss of power. Lost reverse as well. Began when I was just driving around town. Went from completely fine to as it is now in about 10 minutes. Higher speed driving the noise is louder and more often.

Here is a video showing the noise. If anyone has any pointers as to what it may be I would appreciate it.

[ame]https://vimeo.com/280297758[/ame]
Up to 0:38 is reverse, and then most of the noise in drive happens between 1:20 and 2:12.

I have a hard time believing anything other than the shop screwed something up on reassembly since I haven't even had it a month since I got it back from them.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking about the 4R200 if the trans gets opened up again anyway... Wondering if its right for my car though since its 100% street and never on the track. I asked Lund's opinion but it seems good since 1st is useless anyway lol
