Due to life being a bitch (and me trying to be a responsible adult with finances), I had to get a bit more economical in my choice of daily drivers, so bye-bye Mustang GT, hello Focus ST... better than a civic, right? :( :brokenheart: :tsk:

$42 to fill my last tank of 93. I'm glad this isn't my daily. Gas prices on the rise, unfortunately. Kudos for being responsible.

Many of us have been there and had to make those choices.... kids, mortgages, recessions, etc all made me take a very long road to get back to a fun car......

At least you aren't driving a minivan :)

Life’s a bitch even when money is not a problem. So I got a V6 Mustang instead of a Hyundai Elantra primarily as a business car. Bought it from fleet sales and it was cheap enough I got it into class 10 instead of 10.1 for capital cost tax advantages. Anyway it still bugged me that it was not a V8 so I devoted an entire weekend looking for a new 2017 GT still on the lot. Didn’t happen.

Now that the itch has worn off the six is easy to live with. Half the price of the loaded GTs they sell here. Stellar reliability. I even like the fact it’s quiet outside WOT as I still produce music and want to listen without V8 rumble!

Long story short, practical for me came the opposite way than for you. But we all overspend on cars we love when young. Getting older means you avoid having to sell and buy again. But it’s not as much fun...:(

I’ll add one more tid bit: Even buying the cars is not much fun. Did it with the fleet manager mostly. He had the car I wanted in the lot so we went down there, he opened the door with everything still in the factory wrap. No test drive. We haggled for five minutes and when I got my predetermined price I told him I’m done. He said since I wasn’t being a jerk about the price “he would go easy on me” - when did you hear that at a dealership. Anyway when you buy as a business purchase he just asked me if I wanted to pick it up after lunch, like two hours later. And that is how that sale went with me. No fun and no drama. Sort of like ordering a nachos supreme from Taco Bell. I got a great deal but again not as much fun like the entire threads devoted to some guy going to pick up his new ordered car.

Been there done that. In 1984 had to sell my red BMW 320i for a 1984 Ford Escort. Had a baby and bought a house, so had to be a responsible. Also sold my Yamaha 750 Seca. It was a tough year. But these are just "intersections of life" and there things will swing back the other way. Those days are all behind me now. Youngest one is in University, and that's all figured out financially, so 2019 Bullitt on order......Also plan on getting another Motorcycle when I retire in a few years......

The ST is a cool ride.

Gas is over $4 a gallon for premium here in CA. It hurts, but luckily I only drive 20 miles a day. If I had a real commute, it would be a problem.

I had a 13' ST
Noticeably lighter than the mustang and a real back seat.

If you corner aggressively, it goes through brake shoes pretty quick due to it's torque vectoring.

I HATED the Recaro's and the sun roof would not stop leaking no mater how many times I took the dealership ..... so bu bye.

I'd prefer it if all car purchases were this way.

Buying a new car has never been fun, and for me, have usually been several hour ordeals due to some kind of dealership BS. Always made me wonder how people buy cars at 5pm on a busy day, and it takes me 5 hours when I come in on a dead monday at 8am.

ST ain't not GT but it looks like a fun car to drive, should be able to beat most civics apart from the Type-R. The Si would be a good race.

It wouldn’t be a problem, you just get used to it. Fuel here in the U.K. costs twice as much as you pay. You got two choices, you pay or you walk.

Just to confirm the Mustang GT easily outsells the Ecoboost over here.

Don't sweat it brother.

After owning 10 Mustangs and living in the snow belt, I traded my 16 GT and also got an EcoBoost ... but in a different flavor with 2.7L and AWD.

It's all good bro.

I don't know how your deal went down but you never trade for nothing the money you payed will buy a lot of gas. Unless you drive a lot of miles 2 or 3 mpg don't make a lot of difference.
