I have a 2016 GT premium AT, and the main silver trim on my dash is a rather dull plastic piece with horizontal lines. I rented a base GT that had the what looks like aluminum trim with diamond like texture. It definitely looked more upscale. Did they put the wrong trim in my car?

I don't think so, there are a few different ones and what you like might be different than what came on the trim. I've got a base V6 and it has a faux carbon fiberish look to it that I like a lot. I think the premiums have the plain aluminum and base GTs have the diamond pattern.

I believe the base has plastic dash trim that has a pattern.
The premium is actually real brushed aluminum.
My california special has a diamond patter.

Sounds like what you have actually is aluminum. The lines are the brushing effect. I have a base GT, and the trim is aluminum as well but covered with a semi-transparent wrap that gives it a slight carbon fiber effect.

If you got a Performance pack GT you'll have different trim than others..

The GT350 has brushed aluminum trim with a black finish. It almost looks like a matte black wood grain finish.

I think they are all aluminum, at least the one with the textured finish. I recall someone sanding off the textured coating and finishing it off with a brushed look.

That is on my long list of items.

Thanks for the info...mine does not look or feel like aluminum...definitely like the base pattern better or the performance pack. Still miffed they locked auto guys out of performance pack from 15 to 17.

I have a non-PP premium with the diamond pattern. If anyone wants to switch with me I'd be happy! I'd prefer the brushed aluminum.

Can you post a pic of your dash?

There could be some variation by year. Everything I've seen which has been a 400A or 401A GT with and without the PP. They have all been diamond pattern.

Someone on the PP gauge swap thread sanded his diamond pattern trim pieces down to brushed aluminum. I'd be afraid to tackle that on my own.

The second picture is the Performance pack. It is the same regardless of whether it is a base, premium, GT or Ecoboost. And Performance pack cars get the engine turned aluminum. You can tell because of the extra gauges above the center stack. Also, it has sync 3 and the toggle switches which would make it a premium.
