Welp, 7500 miles in, the MT-82 randomly decided to let go.

Was driving home after gas, went from 2nd -> 3rd at 40~ mph and just hit air, shifted to 4th, air as well.

(To appease others, YES THE CAR HAS BEEN TRACKED AND BEATEN ON IN THE PAST)

Both gears completely gone, no noise, no nothing, just gone.

Currently awaiting fords decision for warranty claim.

From everything I've heard its the "new and improved" aluminum shift forks in the 2018 MT-82's.

Anyone else have this issue?

UPDATE

3/4 Shift fork was found snapped, and laying in the Case, Master Tech say's its due to the aluminum shift fork design, as no other damage was found inside the trans Case.

Lots of mods on your car, it will be fun nyeresting to see how ford handles this. Very doubtful the mods had anything to do with the failure. What did the dealership say?

Dealer has trans pulled and is reporting on the damage tomorrow. I've got a good dealer, they will be taking care of me.

My last car got quite a bit of warranty work done while it was on Nitrous/Twin Turbo.
Hopefully OP has a good dealer and they take care of it with no hassles.
They are taking care of me, good dealership with top notch people.
Trans is now out and should have a report on actual carnage tomorrow morning.

None of his mods should blow the tranny, it should be more than sufficient to handle the tq.

Not that this should matter one way or the other, but am I correct in assuming that the username LS Eater implies that you are a....how you say....."enthusiastic driver"??!!

lol, I was randomly tooling about on Youtube and stumbled across this video:

Gentle readers, scroll through to the 60 second mark....and then go to 2:35.

Maybe it's my background (my father was a mechanic), but I learnt about "mechanical sympathy" early on.

Sure Ls_Eater, you can argue that these cars a built to handle a pounding.....but don't come here and tell me that "my 2018 GT MT-82 destroyed ITSELF"!!

I think you need to share a little of the blame.

LOL!
To quote the video since it'll probably be taken down.

"I have beat the $hit out of this thing. For 5300 miles now"
"I have no lift shifted every time I've done a pull"
"I've given it hell, on the stock clutch none the less"

My '16 is still at the dealer waiting on approval for a steering rack for a month... let's see if you get your transmission first.

Parker, learn to drive... kidding, but really this needs to be ironed out. Insane!
Agreed

Glad you are being taken care of. Sucks it let go no doubt.
Could have been worse.

Correct

That could still be considered an understatement, but I'm sure very few of us buy these to drive them slow and soft.

Oh, I have no problem sharing some of the blame, however the 2013 TT that I had prior held its own for 76,000 Miles with no issues, the new Aluminum shift forks certainly have a position of blame here as well, You're right, my wording was not optimal

LOL!

Negative, no intentions of pulling the video at all, I was completely and utterly thrilled with it, upon further inspection of the transmission, finding that ford has changed the shift forks to aluminum, from steel, as well as relevant TSB's on the shift linkage, it's pretty self explanatory as to why it broke.

Not that I don't have any blame to share.

Just checked his videos, running 13.0s LOL definitely driver incompetence IMO.
Yup, 13's on my first pass ever in an IRS car, ended in the low 12's at the end of that night on the stock 235 tire.

Came from a 10 Second TT 2013, everyone has a bad driving day.

The changes in the 2018 MT-82 actually have been causing quite an issue for Ford, so much so that the transmissions are on back order, and the shift forks are being revised to steel once again.

Driver is always part of the issue when something breaks, but you can't over look Ford's shitty design on specific parts.

Haha, We shall see, the trans is out, and the issue was indeed the 3/4 Shift fork.
