Hello, I have already made a post about rattling noise and interior trim misalignment, but I made a new one so you guys don't get confused.
Car has 140 miles atm, and I am starting to hear the ticking noise after the engine start up. It sounds very similar to bbq tick, but I am hearing it at idle when the RPM is over 1k. When it drops below 1k after couple mins of idle, it goes away. Is this the bbq tick or something different?

Mine has 511 miles on the odometer and does the identical thing. I have an appointment to drop it off at the dealership next week to investigate. It's done this since the first cold start after I brought it home.

I see. Would you be able to keep me updated on what is going on?
Thank you

It's likely that's just the sound of the injectors. Direct inject engines are known for "ticking" :)

Ford would save themselves a lot of money and time if they would inform their salesforce about high pressure fuel pumps and the noises they make

Injectors are getting fuel in to the engine during the cold start and thats the reason why the tick is happening? It sounded just like the bbq tick on my 17 and I was frustrated.

A quick update. My 3 week old 2018 Premium PP A10 GT with 1,600 miles is at the dealer with the dreaded tick. My service advisor just called me and informed me it has a number 3 wrist pin issue and needs a new engine.

As of this afternoon they are going to start the teardown process and are awaiting further guidance from Ford. I'm going to stop by there tomorrow and try to get more info. I'll keep the group informed as we progress.

could you please post a video of it if you already recorded one, I would like to hear how it sounds. as far as I know I have the worst ticking ever and was not able to drop it to the dealer yet.
also was there any performance issue? or it was just running good?
thanks

That's quite the diagnosis.

My guess is that he removed the plug lead from each cylinder one at a time until he found the lead that stopped the tick. With the lead removed from the plug you have no combustion in that cylinder, no load on the bearing and wrist pin, and no tick.

If this is indeed the cause of the dreaded ticking, then every engine with the tick will need to be replaced, or rebuilt.

Drivers side door jam for vehicle build. Drivers side valve cover closer to firewall for engine build label.
