I'm still somewhat having a hard time keeping this mustang as a daily. I feel the need to still have the family/go do anything/swiss army/dad has the answer to everything car. My mustang is what's for me and I love it. However, I feel it's still not the right time for it.

Anyway, I'm considering an SUV. Trucks are not on the list because I got out of a Tundra. I owned that Tundra for 5 years and I used that bed once a year to haul trash or donate stuff. The other 2 times a year was for traveling 800 miles to northern California. I prefer the seat space over the bed. The criteria is a 3 row SUV, don't need to tow a home, 4wd, about 18-20mpg average, sport handling somewhat important, strong V6 or V8, and a respectful pedigree. So if you had a choice of SUV what would you consider for a sporty manly man? :)

Here's what my initial research tells me.

1) 2018 Ford Expedition short version - this seriously checks off a lot of things
2) 4Runner - not sporty street driver but good for offroad fun
3) Land Rover Discovery - not sure I want to pay the maintenance
4) Durango RT - this also a strong contender
5) Raptor....LOL

Off of that list I would probably be looking at a new expedition.

Raptor...you wouldn't have included it if you weren't really considering one

The Expedition is a bus, but a pretty capable bus, properly equipped (which you can certain accomplish for $60k). If you need plenty of room for transporting family and cargo, it will do the job.

I have a 4 door F-150 that I love. I know you said you don't use the bed often (I don't either) but it's REALLY nice when you do. Comfortable to drive too.
For $60k that's what I'd get.

So are you selling/trading the Mustang in to get one of these? Why not just look at some older ones instead so you can keep the stang and still have a "practical" vehicle when you need it? You seem like you'd be at the point where you can afford whatever the insurance difference is for two vehicles if you're already okay with the losses on trading in a specialty version of a new car.

I'd take a hard look at the Yukon/Tahoe.

I have a Yukon XL and love it.

Macan doesn't have 3 rows though and the Cayenne starts at 65k.

Probably won't make the popular vote, but I say 4Runner. My wife has owned a 1996, 2005, and now a 2014. Traded both the 1996 and 2005 with over 180k miles at the time and literally zero issues with both.

The 2014 (current body style) 4.0 now has about 90k miles and zero issues. They are just rock solid vehicles and also ok to drive in limited trim.

Just curious, but have you considered the 2018 Explorer with new 10 speed auto?

I just want from an 2015 F150 to a 2017 Explorer Sport.

I've looked at the Raptors almost every 3 years when I trade up my "work vehicles" (2006 F150, 2009 F150, 2012 F150, 2015 F150 & now 2017 Explorer), and between the ADMs and/or no negotiating they're really not worth it.

You should look at an F150 Limited, Platinum or loaded Lariat. Those will be in the $50-60k range. And they're really very NICE. The amount of interior room, luxuries, remote start, heated/cooled seats, panoramic roof, etc. are all awesome.

But I do like the sporty appearance of the Explorer Sport (black accents, nice wheels), love the smaller width & easier parking.

The sticker for my Explorer Sport was $54k as it has EVERYTHING. (premium package, navigation, sony, sunroof, roof rails, mud flaps, running boards, floor mats, etc.)

Funny that my 2015 F150 was lighter, thus a little faster since they have same engine.

We're in a Mustang forum so I think you need to change those options to all Ford! ;)

1. loaded F150 variant - with rebates & incentives often get $10k off
2. Raptor - very cool, but no discounts, and relatively poor gas mileage
3. Expedition
4. loaded Explorer - limited, platinum, or Sport is my favorite

I also looked at Macans but no 3rd row was the deal breaker as my wife said we needed min. 6 passenger vehicle for carpool options.
