Sounds like a lot of good changes on the new 5.0 but maybe I missed if they have improved the OPG. Starting to peak my interest in the 18 5.0 can`t wait till they start hitting the drag strip:ford:

That's a specific, tiny little detail that we're probably months away from knowing anything about.

We know the only leftover part from the gen 2 coyote is the crankshaft. From that you may infer the oil pump and gear are new. Better? Who knows.

It's not failing in stock form on the Coyote, I hardly doubt they gonna change anything.

Higher redline now though. So who knows.

The whole OPG issue is a bit comical, to me anyway. I know enough about wrenching to be dangerous so I was not comfortable doing the Phase 1 blower install myself. I took the time to research and ending-up shipping my car 500 miles away to a Ford Racing aligned shop that primarily modifies, and races Mustangs. They did a great job, install looks factory and no issues almost 1 year later. When I asked about the OPG, the response was "we'll gladly do it for you, but we've never seen one fail on a street car"........ask 10 people, you'll get 10 different opinions.

Improved? How many stock Mustangs have you heard of with failed OPGs? Buy into the aftermarket business fear mongering much? There still aren't even enough (known) modified Coyote OPG failures to even consider it a manufacturing issue.

I don't recall who it was(Beefcake maybe?) who posted a side by side of the '11-14 and the '15-17 crank sprockets and they were actually a bit thinner and supposedly weaker. I've not personally seen crank gear failures without an OPG failure, but then again I've not heard of any crank failures on the '11-14 Coyotes.
