Hi All,

I'm very novice when it comes to drag racing, last summer I went for the first time and ran a 12.9 with a 2.3 60 foot (on completely bald tires).

How can I get into the low 12's without running a dedicated drag tire (don't have the space to store an extra set of drag tires)

Car currently has a CAI and straight pipes. I'm getting a Lund tune and 295 tires out back.

What else do I need to break into the low 12's?

Thanks

I've gotten 12.9 on a road course alignment (max rear camber, not ideal for drag racing) with street tires, a CAI, and a 93-octane tune. To get deep 12's you'll need an appropriate alignment (closer to 0 camber), headers, E85, and appropriate tune. At least that is what I've seen, but I am not a drag expert. I've seen a few people I know break 11 NA without opening the engine for cams or anything like that, but it seemed like a miracle.

12.2 w/ 285 nitto 555g2's. 1.90 60'. at the time had gt350IM and catless headers and e85. mt82 car. BMR drag springs and steeda IRS braces. some people have ran a lot faster w/ fewer mods, but that was my best on street tires.

Based on your 2.3 60ft all you'll need is a better launch to go low 12's.

Ride the clutch, dw06 cont a/s tires with about 24 psi in the rear and 40 psi in the front and at least the bmr springs and lock out kit.

You would be better off (better 60ft) feathering the clutch through first instead of using launch control and just dumping it.

What was your trap?

Sorry for the late response, but my trap was 113.2 MPH

Last Friday I did 12.8 1/4 mi. witih a 113 trap speed on Conti Sport 285 tires and as much rear camber as I can get. More conclusive evidence I can't launch... because I also got a 12.8 1/4 but only across the trap at 108.35 mph that same night. The 60' times between those two runs were worlds apart.

You need a better 60' time. Find a track that preps really good on a middle 50 degree day. Practice your launch until you get into the low 12s.
