How much did you put down? I've done that with all my purchases and have no trouble seeing through their games/walking out.
$5k pre-incentives. However, focus on the price without putting anything down. I only put a down payment as I’ve found it helps negotiation and, with a lease, I prefer a lower payment than what I’m willing to do on a finance. Some will tell you never to put anything down a lease, that sentiment is not invalid as if you total the car you’re out the down payment.

Sure I am, I get a new car every 3 years, the $5k down was optional as $1k = $20/month on a lease; I’d be paying the same regardless.
okay so maybe I'm not getting this correct

36 months X $400 = $14,400 + $5k = $19.4k

So after three years and $19.4k you have nothing. No car nothing.

Thats winning ?

But you say you get to do it all over again. $19.4 k for another new car for 3 years and you get ...... nothing.

Thats $38.8k over 6 years and you still have nothing.

at least I get a 5 year old car when my 5 years are up. :headbang:

Or am I missing something

I don't really understand leasing and maybe thats the problem

There is no way in hell I'd EVER put a dollar down in a lease.
Especially in Georgia where they require that stupid 7% tax. Lease? OK, 7%. Oh, now your'e going to buy the car after the lease? 7% again. Get fked.

Hey, it’s fine if you don’t get leasing. I get a brand new car every three years and don’t worry about maintenance beyond oil changes. I don’t care about keeping the car because I’d rather get the new one. 2013 to a 2016, now to a 2018/2019, all have been huge upgrades over the previous.
And I certainly do get something... a car with no commitments.

In NJ you pay the tax on the amount you’re leasing, that’s it. If you decide to keep it, you then pay the tax for the residual since that wasn’t taxed yet.

It depeneds on the car and lease deal. If there are lease specials sometimes a 2 year lease or so may come out better than buiying a car that has terrrible depreciation and expensive maintance starting year 3-5. It's why so many people lease a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. You can usually get into a lease payment much cheaper than a monthly payment on a loan and then you don't own an expensive maintenance nightmare come year 4+5.

Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, etc. They just don't lease well and I tend to agree your probably better off buying. Unless you try to sell it within 12-24 months when the greatest depreciation takes place.

You need to take into effect the annual mileage allowance. 10k/12k per year. Down in the South I see dealers trying to lease BMW's and Audis with 7,500 miles per year. Are you kidding me? Who drives 7,500 miles a year with their only car? (The low mileage is the hook to get the low monthly)

This is very true, some Jag leases are based on 6ish per year
The lowest Ford offers is a 10.5k/year, though, it winds up only being like $8/month difference compared to 12k/year IIRC.
On my first lease, a 2013 GT Premium Fastback, I did 12k/year because I honestly wasn’t sure how many I’d put on... 35 months later (one month before the lease was up) I did the early out for my current 2016 GT Premium... and had just hit 18k miles on the 2013 during the drive to the dealership  (car had 13 miles on it when I got it). Needless to say, I went with a 10.5/year for my 2016, I have about 6 months left and just hit 16k miles last week :D

If you buy a car on 60 or 72 month financing and trade it in every three years you are going to be in just about the same boat.

if you're going to lease it - get a check cut for your trade and keep it in your pocket/bank. I have never and would never give a cent at lease signing.

total waste of money... just like renting a house. u get nothing back in the end, just buy one and keep it 3 years, then u can decide to trade or just pay another 3 years and then have no payment. your "maintainance free" reasoning is nonsese, you do not put $400/mo into a car for maintainance once you are done paying it off..... i dont understand leasing at all
